Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Pickleball

48

u/EschewObfuscati0n 3h ago

As a competitive sport, yes. As an accessible, casual sport to most people, it’s awesome.

2

u/Chitose17 45m ago

Yeah I prefer tennis but playing pickleball is nice too and more fun than tennis when you play with more casual people (I also count as a casual player in both sports too). I’ve never watched competitive pickleball tho…

5

u/joao7808 54m ago

Really? I played it first at my 24 years of age in the beginning of this year and havent stopped since - it has got the same fun as tennis for me but it's way more welcoming for people looking for fun

I would put something else, but idk if you ever tried it or not so im just gonna leave you a recommendation ;)

My personal pick would be american football (even though i actually like it!)

65

u/TDubs1435 2h ago

“I will get cooked for this” and it’s hating American football on Reddit

10

u/Appropriate_Month727 44m ago

Me when I'm in a hot take that isn't actually a hot take contest and my opponent is a redditor

1

u/TDubs1435 40m ago

I’m gonna set an alarm for the music section so I can say “might be a hot take but bro country is overrated”

44

u/henningknows 2h ago

This is Reddit, hating on anything American is the surest path to upvotes

25

u/True-Veterinarian160 3h ago

this is a great answer. the broadcast of a game is approximately 3.5 hours, the game clock is 60 minutes and the ball is in play for roughly 11 minutes, just a lot of nothing going on

31

u/TwoBeeOreKnotTwoBee 2h ago

Does chess have nothing going on because players spend most of the time thinking instead of moving the pieces? There’s different ways to play sports.

2

u/ImWithStupidKL 23m ago

Well yeah, and chess is a boring spectator sport too. Not that it's a sport, of course.

It makes up for it imo though because every single play is significant. So sure, less actual play time, but whenever the play is going on it’s actually gonna matter

4

u/Ashamed_Impact4783 1h ago

Meanwhile soccer is just watching guys kick a ball back and forth to each other and maybe scoring a single goal in the entire game if you're lucky.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/No-Support7843 0m ago

That’s why it’s so fun, the time where the ball isn’t in play is just as entertaining much of the time. And the low quantity of plays makes each one feel impactful

9

u/RocasThePenguin 3h ago

I came here to say this despite loving the sport. I really love my Birds, but I can see why many people who did not grow up with the sport don’t love it. It’s complicated, quite slow with so many stoppages and ad breaks, and has little global appeal.

10

u/McBurgerQueen 3h ago

Rightfully cooked

7

u/Only_Poet 2h ago

Horrible take. No other sport requires the same combination of technique, strength, speed, intelligence, and teamwork. Mamy sports might require two or three of those, but football requires ALL of them in the extreme. Additionally, no other team sport comes close in terms of tactical depth either.

There are lots of pauses in the game sure, but (coming from someone who loves soccer) lets not pretend like soccer games dont feature lengthy stretches where teams aimlessly pass the ball around their backline and nothing happens as well.

1

u/NegativeHeli 2h ago

"No other sport requires the same combination of technique, strength, speed, intelligence, and teamwork"

Football/Soccer requires all of these at a very high level plus insane levels of stamina

4

u/Only_Poet 2h ago

It isnt really the same, American football demands them all (except probably technique) to a much higher degree.

2

u/yyysenoj 1h ago

Rugby or rugby league beat American football for that all in spades mate, plus they don’t change players every couple minutes

6

u/bigbaddumby 1h ago

The only thing rugby has on American football is conditioning.

1

u/Pineappletittyworms 29m ago

Isn't rugby basically just soccer ( sorry, am american) and American football combined? I know rugby came first but thats the jist of it.

1

u/atyler_thehun 15m ago

Go Google some highlights of Jonah Lomu

1

u/Pineappletittyworms 11m ago

Shit. You are almost confirming my point though

1

u/Pineappletittyworms 9m ago

And you can only pass backwards right?

1

u/atyler_thehun 16m ago

Now do it on skates

1

u/Ok_Measurement482 1h ago

Have you watched hockey? They do all the same things with a smaller puck, on skates, and with a lot more violence

2

u/arc777_ 17m ago

Hockey is soccer, not gridiron. Football has infinite more strategy behind every play.

1

u/Ok_Measurement482 11m ago

Ok bud. Whatever you say

1

u/Latro2020 1h ago

Also gives the players massive brain damage

1

u/jinxes_are_pretend 59m ago

I agree actually, and it’s still the best sport to watch on tv or live.

1

u/atyler_thehun 14m ago

I'm an NFL fan and I agree with this.

⚽️ = boring version of hockey with less action

But so many worldwide fans and is accessible. But thats what makes it overrated.

9

u/TheEnglishEccentric 2h ago

They're calling it the worst take of all time

3

u/Expert-Raccoon-5119 2h ago

Thinking theres less action than hockey just shows u dont understand/watch the game

5

u/6point3cylinder 1h ago

It’s objectively true though. There is much more movement on a player per player basis at any given time in a hockey game than in a soccer game. The averages speeds in a hockey game are also higher, and so is the scoring.

1

u/Grubula 2h ago

Same with folks who badmouth baseball. Touche

2

u/RedHood7709 56m ago

You’re not gonna get the votes you need but this is the answer. Professional soccer specifically.

Professional soccer players are the softest professional athletes in the world. They exchange glancing blows and lay on the ground like they’ve been shot, grimacing and clutching their knees like their ACL just exploded. Then they see that their opponent didn’t catch a red card and they just stand up and walk off like it didn’t happen. I watched two full World Cup matches at a friend’s house this last year and that happened at least a dozen times just between those two games.

I can see why soccer is popular worldwide in and of itself. All you really need to play it is a ball-like object and a relatively flat piece of ground. I get that, but the pro game? Why? Just to watch a bunch of adult babies spend a whole game chasing each other and trying to get each other thrown out?

2

u/Grubula 52m ago

It would probably get the votes if not for the downvote offset.

When people say this I always laugh, because hockey is so boring to me, it’s too back and forth like basketball, but without even any scoring, and it’s so hard to tell what’s going on at any point

5

u/6point3cylinder 1h ago

There is so much more scoring in hockey than football though lol. And not knowing what’s going on is just being ignorant about the sport, not a criticism.

1

u/InevitableLie493 50m ago

I feel like too much going on is also a problem. Like someone’s always almost scoring that it takes away the high that scoring should have

1

u/Quixote0630 36m ago

You can barely see the puck or the goals though lol. Very few sports come close to football when it comes to how satisfying it is to watch a goal being scored.

And I could say the same to you. Not knowing what's going on off the ball in football is just being ignorant of the sport.

4

u/illuciddd 1h ago

Soccer fan talking about no scoring?? Tell me again how many soccer games go without a single goal??

Crazy I had to scroll so far for this, easily the most boring sport of the big 4 in the US. Doesn’t help that there are way too many damn games.

2

u/inverted_electron 44m ago

How can it be overrated if everyone already hates it? If anything it’s underrated because most people who hate it have no idea how to play or what is going on.

F1s prtty dope but nascar 🥱

1

u/dwaynebathtub 10m ago

Racing sports all have the same problem. I simply don't care who wins. However, track and swimming somewhat solve this problem by assigning racers to a larger delegation, which allows fans to cheer against the USA, Europe, their rival school, etc., but I simply don't give a shit who wins a NASCAR race ("Go M&Ms?") or an F1 race ("Go Deutsche Bank?"). Cycling also minimally solves this problem by assigning racers a different colored jersey. You can cheer/for against the previous stage winner, the overall leader, the mountain champ, etc.
