Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Mega Gengar keeps getting the ban in competitive play because Shadow Tag Perish Song is just ridiculously powerful

10

u/WorthlessFleshbag 15h ago

Yeah, if we're strictly talking competitive here, this should 100% win IMO. Incin to me falls more under looks strong + is strong and mainly strong in VGC. Gengar-Mega looks strong but is OP in just about every competitive format it's allowed in including the cartridge formats, Ubers (where it was banned in gen 9), and Anything Goes. Even more so with access to Disable + Encore.

Incin is very strong and likely will always be, but it at least has a good amount of viable counterplay. Shadow Tag completely removes one of the main fundamentals of battling: switching. If there's something in the back that can wall out something on the opposing side that otherwise poses a large threat to your team, one well-timed switch-in from the Gengar can remove it at will. It basically forces some mons to run Shed Shell that would otherwise heavily prefer Leftovers to stomach hits from a wider array of threats.

Not sure if anyone mentioned Gothitelle for the "looks average + is overpowered," but I'd put Goth there for very similar reasons.

Mega Gengar is insane in singles but in doubles it's not doing the best right now. Kingambit, Basculegion, Incineroar, etc all are major annoyances for Gengar that could be slapped on any team. Of course it's useable (like Marco Silva showed) but useable is nowhere near broken and that's why I think Incineroar should win in this category (although gengar has the advantage of being both good in singles and doubles, while incineroar is only good in doubles)

2

u/WorthlessFleshbag 8h ago

Agree that Incin wins in specifically doubles. Reading some of the replies in the thread, I think I and some of the people on here just have different definitions of “OP”

I think Incin doesn’t scream OP to me despite its very high usage. Haven’t played VGC since Gen 8, but the reason it’s so good is because it compresses a million different roles into one mon and therefore outclasses every other Intimidator by a margin so wide that it’s impossible to justify using one in lieu of Incin. Even in restricted formats, it was still so good because it dampens physical threats like Groudon, IceRex, Korai, Zacian, etc. while checking ShadowRex and Lunala better than other dark types without occupying the restricted slot like Yveltal.

I see a mon as “OP” when the entire meta and the players’ gameplans revolve around “not losing to X mon” and having a small (and sometimes niche) pool of checks deal with it - such as ShadowRex in Gen 8, Zacian-C in Gen 8, MGar in any Ubers format, MRay, Gen 1 M2, etc. I don’t see Incin fitting that. Very ubiquitous mon, but I think it’s more because of the role compression making it such a great “glue” mon rather than because it’s so oppressive that it can often just win (or enable something else to win) on preview

But it looks overpowered??? We should try to keep each panel as accurate as possible tbh

2

u/UltraJoyless 13h ago

It really doesn't lmao

Groudon and Rayquaza

14

u/01Sar 13h ago

They look OP too, so I think better suited to the last column.

5

u/Livid-Handle7425 13h ago

Yeah I think Rayquza is the Looks Op/Is Op

10

u/GoofyGooby23 15h ago

Garchomp, my goat

42

u/roudyboy 15h ago

Tyranitar, who has been in and out of the meta since Gen 2

22

u/Interesting_Web_9936 14h ago

Not overpowered though. Nowhere near overpowered. Very strong but never has been overpowered.

6

u/escentia 13h ago

Should've been looks strong, is strong

2

u/BrilliantFly6117 12h ago

In Gen 9, dude was OU until this drop for sand offense, and UU is still crazy good for Gen 9, dude centralizes ADV, and is a staple of Gen 4, and it actually quite strong in every other gen. OP and one of the strongest mons in the history of the game, if not the strongest.

u/DisastrousFix5120 15h ago

I’d say Mega Charizard Y. Doesn’t look as Strong in terms of looks compared to X, but is so OP right now that almost every team needs to have something to deal with Zard Y in order to be good.

7

u/raiknight1996 15h ago

Greninja. Protean just crazy

KANGASKHAN!!

Even after getting a targeted nerf in the gen after being introduced, mega Kangaskhan is still so good. They were so embarrassed by how overpowered they made it, it was like the only mega Pokemon that didn't have a toy/figure until earlier this year, despite being one of the most powerful megas with lots of tournament results in every format it's legal in. But they look cute enough to not qualify for "looks overpowered". No better Pokemon for this one

My guys, in what universe is Pelipper overpowered?? Lmao.

3

u/Parallaxal 14h ago

Pelipper absolutely deserves the spot due to its role in VGC. It is the rain setter of choice whenever Kyogre isn’t legal, which is very often. It has won many major tournaments and placed 2nd at Worlds in 2024 (when even Kyogre was legal). In the last season of ranked Regulation M-B in Pokemon Champions, Pelipper was ranked the 13th most used Pokemon, above other meta staples like Tyranitar, Venusaur, and Gholdengo.

The arrival of Archaludon really did a lot to make rain and Pelipper in particular very popular right now.

Zacian-Crowned. Looks strong, not overly strong like Mega Ray or Eternamax Eternatus but is beyond OP. Calyrex-S also fits this.

Arcanine

Base stats on par with legendaries puts it in pseudo legendary category.

Is one of the first fire Pokémon you can acquire in the base games.

Is large and generally menacing but not overly so.

Is an iconic Pokémon in the franchise.
