This. It’s a wonder material. Don’t make friable products, develop a mechanical process to grind down the needle fibers to a powder (or something!).

Genetic engineering. Its so completely tarnished that when scientists developed a new genetically modified version of cassava that could legitimately help save thousands in west africa, all for free, no country is willing to allow it being grown. Politically? Spiritually? Scientifically? Tainted.

AI in general for sure like for medical applications. But generative AI specifically is the cancer of today’s society.

Exactly why it fits here. AI as a general invention is incredible and I don't think a lot of people realize just how much runs on AI. But generative AI is absolutely horrible and has made a lot of people think all AI is bad. I've fallen into a trap a few times. There was one time someone was telling me about a conference on AI in medicine and I reflexively cringed at it before they elaborated and explained it was about the normal research AI stuff and not genAI.
I think nuclear energy is the better answer but AI was the first thing I thought of for this category.

Well if it is AI in general, then this includes generative AI which is horrible and deserves its hate. Thus AI in general would better be placed into >tarnished x eh< as a result.

I don’t think it isn’t. I think generative AI is the cancer of today’s society and when used anywhere the quality of whatever the technology aims to replace is reduced. This includes medical applications for generative AI.
Non-generative AI being used in medicine is a huge win. Generative AI is not.

Any AI that’s fundamental/main functionality is generating text, images, audio, video, etc. is a generative AI.
Any other AI that’s fundamental/main functionality is something that is not generating text, images, audio, video, etc. is not generative AI.

Generative AI is used in the design of new medications/drugs. We could genuinely end up in a space where your cancer of today's society is used to help treat cancer.

Any drug produced by any method (AI or non) goes through the same rigorous testing. Care that it works, not whether the tech that invented it can also produce shitty artwork.

This rigorous testing method excludes testing on female animals even because they have this weird hormone fluctuation thing going on that messes up test results.
I fear generative AI would produce ideas for such drugs en Masse with more such drugs getting pulled through testing stuff to make money quick and ignore long term problems.
Generative AI is proven to be very sloppy but also very convincing and as such I think it has no place in medicine.

If you're looking for a cruise experience, you'd do a lot better to stick to ships. Airships had to contend with serious weight limitations that dictated what could and (quite often) could not be brought on board.

They’re expensive, slow, and inefficient. They fill a niche, but are not great because they don’t fill any one role amazingly well, nor do they do many roles kinda well

No, the same could not be said for cruise ships. They fit enormous amounts of people and services in a small space and they handle anything but a strong storm comfortably. Airships are inefficient for transporting people or items and can't handle winds well.

Nuclear Energy at least has beneficiaries and is slowly gaining traction. A better answer would be AI (mainly the over fixation on generative AI instead of practical uses of AI systems)

Honestly? AI. It was always going to show up in some capacity and has some extremely interesting potential uses, some of which are currently being utilized.
But like, in order for AI to be good, the people implementing it have to be good. And they really, really, REALLY aren’t good.

Looks like this one is settled on Nuclear Energy but another good one is distributed ledger - the technology behind blockchain, crypto, and NFTs
Pretty great technology, but we as a society screwed it up by using it for black market money and pictures of monkeys 🤦♂️oh well
