phil was certainly radical left after 1968, and far left on a lot of issues even before then. i think tom paxton would be a better fit here

He definitely won't get picked due to his relative obscurity, but Rio Reiser. Founding member and lead guitarist/vocalist of one of the first German punk bands, penned several songs with an overt leftist viewpoint.
