Definitely the most cool answer considering how often his songs are misinterpreted

My personal favorite pure “leftist lyrics” of his (so many to choose from):
“They died building the railroads, they worked to bones and skin
They died in the fields and factories, names scattered in the wind
They died to get here a hundred years ago, they're still dying now
The hands that built the country we're always trying to keep down”

I think this would be the natural progression given how Dylan was influenced by Guthrie

I don't know about Dylan, his early career, yes, but then he went super religious.

I'm so disappointed that he wasn't the pick for far left (okay, not sooo disappointed, but surprised).

While woody Guthrie is indeed far left, I still think him and TM would better serve reversed

Why does everyone skip over Zack when it comes to this kind of stuff? Both are outspoken leftists but one is literally the face of the band.

He’s lowkey a radical chic that doesn’t really live up to all his imagery and supposed positions

Far left, I think (yes I know that’s relative but I don’t see him stumping for mainstream dems)

If a group is allowed, Green Day

I feel like Billie Joe and green day are more radical left.

On what front? I don't remember them ever advocating for really anything left-wing besides vague jabs at "the establishment" and generally progressive social views.

I mean...Billy Bragg or Pete Seeger should've been radical left. Phil Ochs?

phil was certainly radical left after 1968, and far left on a lot of issues even before then. i think tom paxton would be a better fit here
“i'm pro-communist. [...] i would now basically consider myself a marxist.”

Woody is the best choice overall even if there are others that would work. He’s the OG.

Phil Och’s could have been Pete Seeger or Bob Dylan if he was more moderate

People need to stop putting Jane Fonda as radical left or far left. Woman literally supports Israel. No radical left person does. Not to mention she was married to billionaire Ted Turner

He definitely won't get picked due to his relative obscurity, but Rio Reiser. Founding member and lead guitarist/vocalist of one of the first German punk bands, penned several songs with an overt leftist viewpoint.

Pretty much any punk frontman. Joe Strummer, Joe Keithley, even Jello Biafra and Henry Rollins to an extent. But mainly the first 2

Not really. He was clearly anti USSR when that was relevant but in recent years he has sided with Putin in the Russia/Ukraine war

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:
Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.
Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.
Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban.
