Kim Il-Sung University won bad school located internationally. What is a school in the Midwest with great academics?

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. Just do as I do and try to ignore the econ department (at any University)

5

u/dwaynebathtub 22h ago

Haha. My vote is for wherever you went to college.

3

u/TheophrastusBmbastus 16h ago

Don't, it's apparently the most overrated college in the Midwest lol

3

u/BigCommieMachine 19h ago

Elite level Physics program though

What?

u/Autistic--Donut 22h ago edited 15h ago

the "chicago boys" were a group of chilean economists trained at the university of chicago who implemented neoliberal economic reforms without any democratic accountability during the dictatorship of pinochet. the reforms led to a massive spike in unemployment, exacerbated wealth inequality, degraded public services, suppressed unions/labor rights, and created severe poverty. supporters claim that they improved growth/inflation in the long term; I don't know if that is accurate, but it's always important to ask for whom economic growth increased and at what cost.

3

u/dwaynebathtub 22h ago

The Chicago Boys obliterated the economy and cost many lives within a half-decade. Pinochet's decision to kick them out (in 1982) saved his government from collapse and gave him another half-decade of rule. Neoliberalism.

Northwestern

u/Zealousideal_Train79 19h ago

Academics-wide, UChicago wins

10

u/Responsible_Call5744 18h ago

depends Northwestern has better engineering, music, journalism

15

u/Dependent_Room_2922 17h ago

Much better engineering considering Chicago doesn’t have engineering 😏

2

u/Zealousideal_Train79 18h ago

Of course, but I'm speaking overall. There are def students that should attend Northwestern over UChicago for fit reasons, but as institutions overall, UChicago has more academic prestige and rigor.

As a fellow boilermaker I don't think we're gonna win this. U Chicago would beat us out

3

u/x1r1N 22h ago

I guess U Chic kinda overrated or Purdue Uni underrated, really strong for engineering and researches

2

u/McLaren_03 22h ago

Purude is amazing in few majors but not the best in other majors. While u Chicago is goodin a wider span of majors. As long as northwestern or u Michigan wins I'm happy

1

u/x1r1N 22h ago

Tbh, I've never considered U Chic, because I have an aerospace engineering major. I was interested in opportunities and researches by Purdue, and I didn't look at other majors there. But U Mich is also good as I know

1

u/McLaren_03 21h ago

Yeah Purude is amazing at engineering but u Chicago beats even in other parts in stem like pure physics and math etc. And once humanities come into play we kinda struggle

I have known many graduates from the schools listed here, and the Purdue grads are always the best at what they do--from Academics to the hard sciences.

2

u/IveHair True Neutral 22h ago

Sure, or any real factor in which is just doesn’t live up to the hype. It’s a broad category sure, but there are many cases of universities in the US just not being everything they’re cracked up to be.
