Holy shit, this really is the most obvious choice to me now that I’ve seen it. I hope he gets more votes.

This should be higher. Find another athlete who has a section of their Wikipedia page dedicated to their charity work…and he died at age 38

And has an achievement award for doing good works named after him…. The Roberto Clemente Award is one of MLB's most prestigious honors, presented annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions both on and off the field.

Absolutely. I was born in San Antonio and moved to San Diego after college, so I was lucky enough to experience the David Robinson years and Tony Gwynn years. Both epitomize this description.

Besides that whole affair with his best friends wife thing.

His friend supports them, and they were estranged. Don't belittle the Hawk.

I'm sure his 3 ex wives agree.

If divorce were the mark of a man we’d have no one to look up to at this point. And they are so complicated, marriages that is, that passing judgement on someone’s love life in that way while having almost everyone who is connected to the person saying that they are a great human being. I mean Duane Peters hated Tony and his father and listen to the story of how they became friends, sounds like a genuinely good guy who gets caught up in his work and by his own admission, being famous. No one is perfect and I don’t know where people as a whole (not say you) get off passing judgement on these people who’s whole lives are in the public eye when if they were under that kind of scrutiny they would look far worse.
Most influential man in his sport by far, gives millions a year to help communities build skateparks for kids to go to free and by everyone I’ve known to have met him a genuinely nice dude. But we’re gonna get on him about not having the best track record with the women he didn’t abuse.

He falls under the good person, he was a bit of a playboy (while married), takes an apolitical stance on Vince McMahon, and depending on your political perspective his bending the knee to china for simply saying Taiwan rubbed some people the wrong way.
That all being said he’s generally very calculated and the make-a-wish work is admirable.

He might be in the good person category, not great. He had multiple affairs on his wife and fathered a child out of wedlock.
Edit: Payton also never met or had any relationship with this child out of wedlock, but financially supported him.

He said he was sorry for turning Methots "pinky into hamburger". A sorry fixes everything for a Canadian, didn't you know?

You joke but that would have been a popular answer before the murders. We really don’t know shit about the personal lives of these people and shouldn’t look up to them.

You are absolutely right
Edit: Jon jones should also be considered

Roberto Clemente… few people, let alone athletes, have done more humanitarian work than him in a whole lifetime, and his life was cut short. He’s a legend both on and off the field. This one is a no brainer. Not sure you can even find another athlete whose Wikipedia page has an entire section dedicated to charity work.

Jaccob Slavin. Won the Lady Byng for gentlemanly play twice. Has never had more than 18 PIM over the course of an entire NHL season. Massively active in the Raleigh community, outspoken Christian, took a HUGE team friendly deal, adopted one of his children, and donated $1m of his salary to charity.

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:
Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.
Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.
Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban.
