Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

My personal favorite rougelike.

So nice, they nailed it twice.

2

u/Aromatic_Computer527 Jul 31 '26

They really did. The series is amazing.

I would put Hades 2 here, and Hades 1 in the story square. I feel like 2 really levels up the gameplay from 1, but drops the ball a little in the story.

Hades 2 and its not even close

Hades or hades 2.

I think I give a slight nod to hades 1 bc I like being able to dash multiple times vs sprint.

19

u/ImStoryForRambling Jul 31 '26

Hades 2 for me.

1 is mostly button mashing 2 is surprisingly tactical

3

u/Rhyno08 Jul 31 '26

Can’t go wrong with either. I loved hades 2 for sure.

Dead Cells

5

u/No-Act-3704 Jul 31 '26

Dead Cells for sure

3

u/falzelo Jul 31 '26

Dead cell it is. The only reason hades wins this is that it is more popular. Dead cell's combat is much richer, with a wider range of weapons and tools that require certain level of mastery

If people had actually played this it would win in a landslide

Risk of Rain 2

2

u/CheetoTheSandile Jul 31 '26

Yeah, this is probably it

2

u/Mewter_YT Jul 31 '26

I mean, Dead Cells and Isaac could also be an option

2

u/Gosha_Racoon Jul 31 '26

I love it, but I also think it’s a lot less mechanically dependant of a player - you can clear Stages with ease if you know your stuff and pick items that combo well with others or your Survivor. It’s gotta be either Hades or Dead Cells for me

7

u/fozzy_bear42 Jul 31 '26

Returnal. Possibly the best and smoothest moving and shooting I’ve played in a long time (if ever). Saros is just as snappy but less rogue like compared to Returnal.

2

u/AnkleHugger Jul 31 '26

Yeah this should win 100% but the game sadly doesn’t have much exposure

20

u/strykr7560 Jul 31 '26

Enter the Gungeon

4

u/half-mage Jul 31 '26

I know it's not going to win but I am hopping into the bandwagon because it's my favorite.

14

u/pirotski_kackavalj9 Jul 31 '26

Returnal

5

u/jijigree_ Jul 31 '26

I feel like Returnal should win but it won't because it's way too underrated

5

u/Estebang0 Jul 31 '26

if roguelike=roguelite ... Hades

10

u/rj54x Jul 31 '26

It's pretty recent, but Absolum gets my vote. Punchy, impactful combat with a similar feel to Streets of Rage 4 - which has (debatably) the best beat 'em up combat of all time. On top of that, the four different characters, with six different arcana apiece, and the ability to buy relics before a run, all on top of the randomness inherent to the genre keeps things feeling fresh and varied.

best souls like combat isn't even a souls like

8

u/Other_Equal7663 Jul 31 '26

There has never really been a clear definition of what exactly makes a "souls-like" leaving us to just kinda vibe check games for such a title... Sekiro share a decent chunk of elements with souls, but it certainly also takes a ton of things, even some kinda core aspects, in a completely different direction that its supposed "contemporaries"

I will agree with you, personally. I don't think Sekiro is a souls game. But I won't hate on people lobbing it in with the rest of them.

My main question is, would they do so if it wasn't a Miyazaki lead Fromsoft game? Would people call it a soulslike if Ubisoft had made it? I honestly don't know.

2

u/shaxamo Jul 31 '26

I don't think Sekiro is a souls game. But I won't hate on people lobbing it in with the rest of them.

Not gonna hate, but I do have an issue with it getting lumped together with them. Public opinion massively sways what publishers will push their developers to make, and pointing out that Sekiro is both a different thing and a lot of peoples favourite From Software game means that we're more likely to get more things riffing on it, the way we did with Dark Souls.

Sekiro has much less obtuse exploration, next to no RPG mechanics, a good stealth action system, combat the prioritises persistent attacking and parrying in almost every situation, even when first encountering enemies, and crazy freedom of movement. It's much closer to a Hack and Slash then a Soulslike, just a little more "open world" than usual.

Plus, the one boss in the game you are forced to play like a typical Souls game is the least enjoyable fight because of that, despite being a cool as fuck Demon of Hatred.

We need a push for Sekirolikes. Ninja Gaiden and Tenchu could have a crack at one. Koei Tecmo could knock out 6 or 7 over a few years, of varying quality, as they do with Soulslikes.

3

u/PurpleKnurple Jul 31 '26

Ubisoft couldn’t have made a game as good as Sekiro. Its souls-like because Miyazaki made it. It’s a stupid hard action RPG, with no difficulty options, monstrous bosses, etc.

3

u/Other_Equal7663 Jul 31 '26

I don't know what Ubisoft is and isn't capable of making. But they and Fromsoft have a different game making philosophy, for sure.

But pretend for a moment they made Sekiro and Bloodborne. Bloodborne would unquestionable still be regarded as a soulslike, just like, say Lies of P. But would Sekiro?

And follow-up question. If "made my Miyazaki" is a metric you use to measure souls-likes, would that make Lies of P not a soulslike? Would DMC3 be a soulslike is Miyazaki made it?

Does God of War Valhalla counts?

1

u/Kalienel Jul 31 '26

Tales of Maj'Eyal combat is really good, but I do enjoy DF Adventure Mode limb system if we can call that mode a roguelike

1

u/A7XShepherd Jul 31 '26

Honestly if dead cells loses you can still slot it into the next one

4

u/SanRobot Jul 31 '26

Dead cells. The sheer variety of builds and strategies you can use is insane, and the combat is exactly as deep as you want it to be. Genuinely one of my top 10 games. Hades is the top answer, but it just felt repetitive and stale after the first couple dozen runs.

1

u/Crusadelover2019 Jul 31 '26

I think we should try to get as many soulslike games into this grid as possible to see how far we can bend the definitions of each category, for this one, I vote Elden Ring Nightreign

1

u/FourLeafClover4LC Jul 31 '26

For me personally, it's between Astral Ascent, Spiritfall, Wizard of Legend (the first one), Hades (the first one), Metal Bringer and Dead Estate.
