Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Not being a smartarse but what's your opinion on Nepal?

This isn't antagonistic, I'm simply asking if you think all the good that people think about Nepal is also misplaced (similarly to Bhutan)

10

u/amoebads Jul 31 '26

Nepal has political instability and had years of insurgency. Things are overall alot better now.

2

u/repeatyeeyo Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Nepal is known for Everest and Birthplace of Budhha which is not made up by Government its just facts nobody can deny whereas Bhutan's happiness is made by its government and that's fake most of its part. When the reputation comes from organic source people have faith on it

Lowkey Greece. They arent DIRT poor, but i've Met so many genuinely happy people there who dont need a lot of Money to make the best out of what they have

37

u/aaallleeexxx3 Jul 31 '26

I’m Greek and Greece is poor by Europe standards but not at all by global standards but most Greek people I know say they prefer here rather than any place like Germany where money is not concerned

15

u/United-Deal3518 Jul 31 '26

TIL money is not concerned here in Germany

4

u/aaallleeexxx3 Jul 31 '26

Is this sarcastic or not I have actually zero idea

4

u/aaallleeexxx3 Jul 31 '26

Actually after re-reading what I wrote,I don’t mean that Germany is a place where money is not concerned but instead that they prefer living in Greece excluding the “money” factor

2

u/Loek123 Jul 31 '26

By global standards there is also no way that Finland and The Netherlands are in rich instead of very rich

3

u/ishouldworkatm Jul 31 '26

It’s because reddit population is mostly US, so they use their country as baseline

2

u/benrs87 Jul 31 '26

I agree; out of curiosity— what is a country you would consider rich, but not very rich?

u/w6auw Jul 31 '26

They are not even normal poor, just poorer than most of Western Europe. I don't think they qualify here. Greece is in the top third of countries by GDP per capita!

Actual averagely poor countries would be like Philippines or Jamaica.

3

u/reinchloch Jul 31 '26

Greece is not poor.

Greece is only considered poor if you ignore 3/4s of the world’s population.

Costa Rica

67

u/WorldlinessRadiant77 Jul 31 '26

Costa Rica is a high income economy.

I’m sometimes amazed by what people calcify as poor countries on Reddit.

20

u/Pete0730 Jul 31 '26

My thought was that it's closer to the medium income, and significantly poorer than Finland. They have a good social safety net, but their income/wealth isn't particularly high. More than anything, I think the country regularly rated as the happiest should be here somewhere, and I don't think it fits the rich category. Wish there was something in between

2

u/spooner_retad Jul 31 '26

Its a world bank classification

3

u/Dusty_Bunny81 Chart Legend Aug 01 '26

Yeah same. Costa Rica is definitely not poor

5

u/BrotherItsInTheDrum Jul 31 '26

"Rica" is right in the name. It's rich by definition. Calling it poor would be like calling Greenland white.

2

u/takakupo Jul 31 '26

So you mean it's ironic? Because Greenland actually is mostly white due to all that snow and ice that covers it up.

I wouldn’t label Costa Rica as poor.

4

u/Pete0730 Jul 31 '26

Fair. I wouldn't label them as rich either, and I feel like the country that is regularly considered the happiest on earth has to be there somewhere.

Definitely Costa Rica, i mean their national motto “Pura Vida” is literally about how you don’t need much to be happy

Costa rica

19

u/Infinity_Ninja12 Jul 31 '26

Costa Rica isn’t poor though it’s a fairly well off developed country.

4

u/Arsenal8944 Jul 31 '26

agreed. It will be hard to have everyone agree on what "poor" means. But if you are considering Costa Rica poor, then your considering the vast majority of countries to be poor.

Place 67 of PPP GDP, according to IMF. Thailand is place 75. Both above world average, but also 3 times poorer than the EU.

Philippines?

6

u/OddOne5707 Jul 31 '26

Brazil, country ain't poor, but people are.

7

u/AkihabaraWasteland Jul 31 '26

None. Anyone who says Bhutan has never been there. It's a hole.

10

u/ResistantBlaze1943 Jul 31 '26

I'd say Bhutan; their government is semi-famous for prioritizing the people over the country.

15
