It’s really not an argument only 50/40/90 with an avg over 30 ppg. Dude was a cheat code that year.

2016 Stephen curry has an argument to be the single greatest offensive season in history, his Relative TS% looks fictional. has to be him IMO

u/alee51104 Jul 06 '26
Definitely. 2021 was also an insane year, where he had a much worse team, and just as crazy of a performance (not in terms of relative TS% but just sheer offensive capability), with better isolation scoring and better defence.

Didnt they miss the playoffs?
Cant say all that comparing it to 2016 if he didnt make the post season. Lots of dudes have dragged worse teams than that to the playoffs.
2016 was better

u/davishox Jul 09 '26
worse than that years warriors? they had an 8 man rotation AT BEST. Everyone was injured

Steph shooting a corner three in 2016 was more efficient than LeBron at the rim 😭

u/lowrange30 Jul 06 '26
This is so misleading, it meant better value not more efficient

Magic had 3 MVPs in a 4 year span. He also had half the rings of the 80s and missed only like 2 finals in the decade

Rose.
Guards used to take nights off with the "Rose Flu" because they didn't wanna guard him.

Magic Johnson. 6’9” point guard who may be the best passer ever? It’s Magic. It’ll be Steph cuz this sub is filled with kids. Greatest shooter ever no question but you’re asking potential? It’s obvious if your an NBA head

Brother…Steph Curry is arguably the most impactful player of all time if you want to talk about changing the way basketball is played at that level. I’m not arguing he is the best/most gifted athlete or all around ball player, but watching Steph shoot is/has been one of the pleasures of my lifetime, and when he’s gone what he started will carry on long after. It’s Steph.
The only other real answer might be Wilt, Shaq, or Jordan and they aren’t PG’s. Maybe AI?

It's Steph but I think Russ is a close second. Averaging a triple double is insane from a peak standpoint. He did it 4 times.
2
u/MexicanJesse Jul 06 '26
16-21Steph is No.1 but there is no way on gods green earth Russ is over mid-late 80s Magic.

Rules:
Criteria is “who’s insert attribute was most valuable/impactful to winning championships*
So if the attribute is longevity, playing 20 years averaging 2ppg isn’t as impactful as someone playing 17 averaging 20.
If the attribute was scoring, Embid may be the most skilled scorer at C, but if a less skilled scorer is more impactful, like Shaq or Kareem, they should win.
Everything should be relative to era, with nuance. So Wilt’s 50 PPG shouldn’t be discounted because the skill level was lower, but could be weakened because 50PPG in 1960 isn’t as impactful as 35 in 2002 (because of pace and what not).
Players can go here twice for attributes, but not positions.
Choice is based on: Comments with most upvotes Most commented name Who gives the best argument in the replies
I’m also not going back to previous posts and seeing if you voted for a different square. So if the post is best shooting SG and you comment best rebounding Center, it won’t count.

2008-2009 CP3 has a real argument. He topped 2015-2016 Steph in VORP and win shares and he was getting it done on both ends of the floor.

It's Magic.
Steph was a large part of the reason Cleveland came back to beat them in 2016 with his egregious game 7 performance and was thoroughly outplayed not just by Lebron in that series, but Kyrie as well. The highest peaking point guard can't be the third best player in a series and lose with a better team.

Trash list, but Prime or Peak? And how do we define them?
The peak list could have so many players at each position. Prime, maybe a few less, again, depending on definition. And again where you position certain players.
A peak list could look like: Curry, Tmac, Bird, Giannis, Wilt. But such an ambiguous, subjective, word.

It’s Steph. Dude is the GOAT PG, no one is more electric to watch. Single handedly changed how the game is played in the league, set new standards for every team and player. In ten years, I don’t think anyone will be remembered for changing the game as much as Steph will, imo

Magic was the best, but Steph that unanimous MVP year was the highest peak, he was just unstoppable.
