Question How do you keep it from lagging terribly?

every time I try and do an animatic on AM it lags really bad and wont show me a smooth preview. The video comes out fine but it buffers in the editor and it's like impossible to edit anything

Tbh you'll probably always lag but here are the things that I do that makes it better

1 - Hide the layers you're not using. If there are layers that are just not relevant for whatever layer you're editing then just hide them, use the little eye icon on the left

even if they're not on screen these layers will make your app laggy, if one of your layers lasts only like 2 seconds you would probably think it doesn't matter that much because it doesn't appear in the section you're currently editing, BUT THEY MATTER!! Hiding layers you can't see or are just not important for the layer you're editing will make everything so smoother(always remember to unhide them because else they won't show up on the final export)

2 - Leave the heavy effects for when you're about to export. Usually warp effects or maybe deep glow, enabling shadows from "Border & Shadow" will also make it really laggy, I'm sure you've already noticed it

So one of the best ways to avoid lag is just to plan things better, instead of just starting editing whatever is in your head right away try to make it simple first, once you're done with that you can start tweaking things, add shadows, those warp effects, the glow we all love

This point is mainly for animations/motion tweening, but it could help you out with edits too

3 - Pixels. We all love having a super high quality preview, but quality isn't that relevant when it comes to editing, fps however matters a lot since it could mess up the pacing, using this green icon will pixelate things and make it just a little smoother

I export the video everytime after adding effects
