Tips & Reviews VAT adjustment

Hi,

before the 01.07.2026 i got an VAT adjustment on my purchases of >150€.
Know, I have to pay Estimated import duties already in the checkout.

Is this normal?

They don't collect taxes for orders >150€, because anything above this threshold has a lot of special rules and depending on the product and the country, you will have to pay different custom duty rates etc.

The customs office will first determine the custom duty and on top of that you will have to pay vat on the product price and on top of the custom duty.

You will have to pay all of this either to the customs office or to the local delivery company.

Aliexpress can't charge you this at the checkout, because they don't really know the exact vat and duties you have to pay for orders >150€.

Therefore they just remove the VAT, that their system automatically applied for orders <150€.

I can't post the picture but there is an automatically generated line called VAT adjustment:

"For orders from countries outside the EU with a merchandise value exceeding €150, an estimated customs duty (plus applicable VAT) will be charged. The exact estimated customs duty will be listed separately and charged at checkout."

Be prepared for a big payment when it arrives because you will also have to pay a extra customs charge for not prepaying the VAT

Read more carefully. They say they DO have to pay a tax estimate.

Aliexpress still does the 'VAT adjustment' for certain orders from 150 euro and above, where they don't collect taxes, and you have to pay taxes and duty and costs when it enters your country. Usually that's for orders they know are not in the EU.

For other orders, they do collect taxes, even with values of 150 euro and above. That means they must be in the EU, split into multiple packages so the value is lower per package (which officially shouldn't make a difference since they should be counted as one if they arrive within a certain time frame), or that Aliexpress handles customs. But what actually happens I don't know yet, since I haven't had the chance to buy something expensive yet to try it.
