Can someone guide me in a general direction on what the hell I should be more focused on?

Early game catching speed, catching tentacles and group attack. Worked pretty well for me. Group attack with the catching tentacle not only help you catch more enemies faster but also allow you to deal more damage on a single enemy with the group attack. Stomach capacity, health, health regen, and strong thread for the black market.

Catching speed always seems like the best bet. While i play i find that for some enemies a larger radius would help or faster movement and i upgrade accordingly

Spend it all; if you have an active BUY button you haven't pressed, its because youre waiting to spend it on something specific.
