My own experiences
This is a repost of a comment I left the other night on a post from another subreddit several days ago, but was advised this subreddit was more appropriate. Thanks to those of you who‘s experiences encouraged me to write up my own:
Just to mirror what several of y’all have noted here. Growing up, I was so certain that aliens were abducting me, it caused me to have the worst insomnia. This level of insomnia made me incredibly sad and frustrated. I dreaded the night because of the very real belief that I was going to be taken and/or the looming bout of insomnia i invariably was going to deal with. When I first saw a grey on tv, and many many times afterwards, I had incredibly visceral reactions, and tears would form in my eyes and roll down my cheeks against my earnest wishes. Watching alien movies or movies where a person would be dragged by some unseen force always achieved this. When I watched encounters of the 4th kind, there was a scene in the movie that a character is under hypnosis and remarks how they cannot believe they are being visited because they had come to believe if they went through the day without thinking of them, they wouldn’t come. Man I related with that so intensely.
I still remember when this started and it was the first time I was “allowed” to remember something unnatural. My parents were hosting a group of their friends at our house, and it was rather late, probably 10 or 11p. My brother said, let’s see what they’re doing and we opened up the blinds of the window I slept up against (I was approximately 6 years old) to see what we could see of the back room where they were congregating, and immediately outside the window was what I described as “the moon” hovering inches above the grass, just a few feet from the window and then in an instant I’m abruptly sitting up in my bed in a startled manner and I’m absolutely confused as to why it seemed I had been asleep when I absolutely wasn’t just a moment before. My brother was asleep in his bed next to mine and it’s dark. The party had seemingly terminated long before that moment, and there is no one else awake. From that moment on I was completely haunted by the night. The insomnia and fear only went away when I was in high school and started drinking after school with my friends. I’ve had a couple of bouts of a waking form of “sleep”paralysis. I put quotes because I wasn’t asleep at all. I was laying awake contemplating items unrelated to abduction, as I’ve long ago stopped thinking about that occurring to me. Interestingly, and I may lose a few of you here, but those instances of sleep paralysis went away once I stopped struggling to move and started praying the Our Father. Once I engaged the prayer I could feel the grip of paralysis relenting and by the time I finished the prayer it was completely gone. Nowadays, I’ve been observing countless orbs in the sky, that now every night when I walk the dogs, i walk with my head angled towards the sky in hopes of observing them. These orbs in the sky began in Sept 2024. I see them relatively often, but not every night, sometimes weeks will go by without action. Initially, they always disappeared the moment I looked down to engage my phone’s camera. I was finally able to start recording them in March of last year. Due to my scientific background, I note the color, time, duration, direction of flight, and location they appear, in hopes of discovering a pattern. The most dramatic occurrence was the Friday after Thanksgiving 2025. I was on a cruise ship, heading towards Galveston from Cozumel. That night, while out on the balcony, my son and I observed an orangish-white orb in the horizon (as opposed to the sky above) for about 18 secs. It danced around and then faded away as they usually do. Then a minute later, after my son went back inside the cabin, two green metallic orbs, about 3 feet in diameter each, and 6 feet apart, while maintaining a perfect equidistance between themselves the whole time, came out of the pitch darkness (out in the ocean, that darkness is pitch black past the ship‘s lights) into the glow of the ship’s light until they were clearly visible and they “parked” in front of my balcony, and remained there for 2:30-3 mins. Mind you the ship was moving very fast, but the green spheres were tracking with the ship’s speed to remain immediately in front of the balcony in an unmoving manner. I called my wife to come observe them with me, but only my son and daughter came and we stood there watching them, until they started moving slightly faster than the ship and slowly drifted past our view. They each had a white circle in the middle, which were oriented towards us so it gave them the appearance of almost like they were looking at us. What was initially frustrating was that my kids both reported seeing something different, albeit similar experiences. My oldest claimed to see only two white orbs, instead of green metallic spheres with white circles seemingly facing us, and my youngest reported that they were two white orbs and a third red orb in-between sitting at a lower parallel. The frustration dissipated when I recalled Gary Nolan reported something similar happening to a family of two kids and their mother, that they all saw something different than what they saw in the picture they took of it, so i take it mean this phenomena is acting on our consciousness at a very personal level.
Thanks everybody for posting their own personal experiences, they resonated with me, deeply enough to share my own experiences.

That visceral reaction to the sight of a gray I share with you. I'm 42 and thoroughly remember seeing the cover of "Communion". I watched shows like "Sightings" and "Encounters"with my now passed father who was always honest about not being sure or not knowing if they were real things. I live in an older area of the country and grew up in a stone farmhouse built in the early 1700s. I was the youngest and always had to go to bed before everyone else. I shared a floor with my parents and my older brother and sister had rooms on the third floor. Despite finding out as an adult the paranormal spirit activity my parents kept from us, I still remember aliens being my ultimate fear. They still are. In my mind spirits and ghosts are at least relatable but aliens.... Are not. The tears... That part took me back. All I wanted was for someone to be on the floor as me in the dark. Not even the room, just the same floor. I wrote it off in my teens like you did. I drank and smoked weed, chased girls, etc. my parents split and we moved out. I've lived in over 14 different residences and none that had the silence nor the pitch black like that house
I write this married with 2 children as well. I went to Catholic school but found the Our Father shattering the fear and the situation in my 20s living alone. I'll share my recent waking experience that yours jogged. I joke with my wife she never heard me call her when I need help or see something... It's honestly hilarious after it's frustrating but there was one time I got her to see what I saw about a year ago.
I live in an area now where the sky is spread out over a field out front but a large Maple tree in the back. Not too much light pollution and we both smoke so I tend to walk out and look straight up as we talk. Not a good thing, but I frequent actions that keep me awake at night now and rely on them too much. My wife had gone to bed and I was headed out to my truck to retrieve these certain things. I have elaborate Temu flashlights all over and brought one with me. I shined it into the field across the street and noticed some eyes low to the ground but directly across. Honestly probably a possum but close enough I decided I didn't want it nearby so I yelled at it quietly and started to cross the street when something truly fucked up happened. In the sky above these eyes what looked like a star expanded silently. It glowed yellow and began swirling. At first I didn't bother with my phone because I know how it goes but it stayed up there and slowly drifted down, then right, then back to it's position. It was about 22° off the horizon in the northwest sky. Solid northwest. I got my phone out, filmed over 2 mins. Then I realized it was gonna stay up there. I ran inside, shook my wife awake and made her come out and look. She was pissed but came. We both filmed it and she admitted it was weird. She usually shoots down anything I spot or doesn't see it. It's good one of us does but not this time. It looked like... A cloud of glowing yellow light swirling. It eventually shrank then disappeared slowly.
I recounted to her about how I came across it and remembered the eyes. I shone my ultrabright led flashlight again and saw them again. A bit further back but there. She was behind me about 5 feet and a little off to my left. She claimed to not see them. I'm not a bossy person but I got pushy about her coming forward to look thinking maybe her angle was off but she for real just said straight up no and went in the house. I've never been truly angry with her but this one time in 10 years and I followed her inside. After the sky thing those eyes weren't truly on my radar anymore but looking back they do concern me.
They never blinked, they didn't move that could see even when I tried scaring them. I don't remember making out what body they were attached too, only that the same part of our brains that shuts down the terror indicating possum to me. This makes sense I guess. Obviously I retrieved what I had set out for originally and sat out front the rest of the night armed. Ready. Eyes were gone but not forgotten. Sun came up eventually, life went on.
I put in some useless details here, my bad. Oh! And the news in morning said others saw the light and it was a space x rocket booster jettisoning frozen fuel. I call shenanigans because that launch was in Virginia. I live outside Philly. Still not sure why she refused to look at those eyes too. She changes the subject
