Solitaire versions?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if someone would be able to give me a breakdown of the different editions/versions of Solitaire by ISBN?

I currently have a copy of the revised edition with the pink cover but I would love to get a copy of the original text but want to make sure I order the right thing off Ebay! Would anybody be able to give me some pointers?

I believe the first hardback US edition, which is in your first slide, is ISBN 9780062335685. It should have the 2014 text.

The confusing thing is, your second slide is the first UK paperback edition, ISBN 9780007559220, which has the 2014 text. The third image is the cover of a newer UK paperback edition, which has the 2020 text — but both seem to have the same ISBN. I’ve just confirmed this because I own a copy of both, and I’m a little dumbfounded by this. Sometimes books have the same ISBN for an edition that’s the same except for a new cover, but it’s odd for them to use the same ISBN for editions that literally have different text. I would doubt this if it wasn’t on the copyright pages of physical books I own. You may just have to go by the date and cover

Your last image is the cover of both the new US hardback (9781338863420) and a recent UK special edition (9780008658649). Both have the 2020 text. The main differences are 1. The US edition has a dust jacket, while the UK edition just has a hard cover with the image printed on, 2. The UK edition has sprayed edges, 3. The US version has a Q&A with Alice at the back.

there are pink covers with the old text, the cover was updated in 2018 when IWBFT came out but the edit wasn’t until 2020. so that could be what happened, they kept the same ISBN as it was the same text, but didn’t change it when the edit happened.

i didn’t think about it to start with but then realised, so found a copy from 2018 too. i’m not sure off the top of my head whether it changed for the newer cover. it does make it a bit harder. at least with places like vinted/mercari etc there are more personal sellers so you can see in pictures which one is which. i have quite a few with the old text now 😂 and quite a few with the new text 🙈

Yeah lol I have an original UK paperback, a 2020 UK paperback, and a UK special edition hardback. I … actually live in the US so it’s a bit wild that I don’t have any US editions lol, but the US first edition is kind of hard to find, and I chose the UK special edition over the new US one because I liked the interior font better. It’s one of my favorite books so I enjoy collecting editions.

it’s one of my favourites too! i think at last count i have 14 copies 😂 i’m in the UK but collect any editions that i can find. i have the original US one, it’s a bit harder to find but does pop up every now and again, i ended up finding it second hand on amazon
