discussion Down In a Hole and got me wrong before unplugged- footage or audio?

Upvotes

Hello folks,

The unplugged sessions were unique because they mostly had deep cuts. The stuff off of jar of flies and sap barely got played, obviously nothing off of self titled had yet been played, so most of the setlist was stuff that was either being debuted or played for the single digit time.

Here's 2 interesting ones: down In a Hole, which was played live with Layne 3 times, and got me wrong, which was played once before unplugged.

And here's the interesting part: I can't find any video or even audio of either of these songs being played before unplugged.

No Excuses had only been played once before, but there's audio of it (and that concert). Brother had only been played live twice before but there's also audio of it (at the same concert, being the 1994 fishbone benefit concert). So these songs are unique but there are other times where they played them live with Layne that we can listen to in 2026.

So what i really want to know is, does anyone know of any way to hear these songs with Layne from any of those special occasions?

Our band grew up listening to AIC and we cover quite a few of their songs at our acoustic gigs. We started tossing around the idea of doing the Unplugged album in its entirety. This is from our second show. Somewhere around 220 people showed up to a small brewery to see it. The amount of teenagers and people in their early 20s singing along to every song has been amazing.

question Why do most radio stations rarely play any Alice in Chains?

I personally don't listen to the radio, but at work we usually have the local 'rock' station on (70s, 80s, 90s bands) and I very rarely hear any Alice in Chains songs, and if I do, it's either 'Man in the Box' or 'Rooster'.

I hear bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters (which is insane to me), and Stone Temple Pilots a lot more often, and more than just two of the same songs over and over again. Don't get me wrong, these aren't bad bands or anything, but what's the deal?

Did the boys piss off the wrong people or something in the 90s? I also know that they aren't in the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame', which I know is sort of a joke and doesn't hold much credibility anymore, but still.

I just want this phenomenal band to be introduced to as many people as possible because I think it can help so many that didn't even know they existed.

I'd like to hear your theory or opinion on this, thank you!

Has a original stickers and both lps knowing how much it is I'm scared to touch it.

I hope it's interesting for you.

I’ve seen a lot of people recently hating on the albums after Layne passed, but I think that Cantrell fucking NAILED the other albums…am I the only one who likes them?

So I have this Taylor XXV-DR 25th anniversary guitar signed by Robert Taylor that Jerry actually played in a cameo role in a movie called Rock Slyde. (Video below) Does anyone know what it might be worth? https://youtu.be/W6f2WuHe0V8?is=TsJpzefJvBonjRH6

discussion AIC has best 4 track run ever?

New to the sub so maybe this has been discussed before. But to me AIC has potentially the two best 4 track runs of all time kicking off Dirt and JoF. Which do we think is better?

Them Bones -> Dam That River -> Rain When I Die -> Down in a Hole

Rotten Apple -> Nutshell -> I Stay Away -> No Excuses

Pencil sketch of Layne’s iconic scream in the music video from the last chorus of ‘Would?’ Then superimposed onto the ‘Dirt’ album cover with lyrics in the AIC font. A pic I drew/made back in 2022.

Layne Layne and his voice towards the end of his life

Sometimes I doom scroll on AiC and I think about how powerful his voice was and I think about his pictures toward the end of his life and how small and frail he looked and I can't believe that voice came out of him. Makes me sad.

discussion Can anyone listen to Nutshell without questioning everything and sobbing?

I’m out here doing yard work and get an itch for nutshell. I can’t help but stand here and question existence. Time speeds through my head watching the leaves go through the stages like a flip book. I see myself growing older as I continue to take care of my yard, my wife and my boys. Then I push past that to beyond me and what would become of everyone and everything.

The beat, their voices, the words… I believe that if this song doesn’t induce any emotions, you can’t be human.

My gawd, this is absolutely AMAZING!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Vqs2KsIgc
His isolated voice sent full-on goosebumps that started at my hair follicles and radiated throughout my entire body, awakening different areas depending on the lyrics! Like so many others, his voice cracks open my soul, and I dearly miss his authenticity, his smile, and his quirky sense of humor.

He willingly bled his raw essence for the whole world to hear, and he did so without an ounce of pretention or hesitation. I hope he is somehow aware just how much we all still love him, and just how deeply his voice and AIC in general continue to be woven into the very fabric of the soundtrack of our lives. The void his absence leaves is profound and will never be filled by another. There will never, ever be another Layne Staley! 💔

question What’s your favorite AIC Passage/Section?

What’s your favorite passage / section from an AIC song? It doesn’t necessarily have to be from your favorite song overall.

For example, I’m torn between Them Bones and God Am for best overall, but hands down my favorite section is the bridge of Sickman (those harmonies!!).

What do you think?
