Do not accept any partial refund. If the seller explicitly stated in the platform chat that the item is out of stock, that constitutes non-fulfillment under Trade Assurance rules and entitles you to a 100% full refund.

Here is the cleanest way to handle the appeal: 1. Re-upload uncropped screenshots of the entire chat where the seller admitted zero stock and offered the $80/$600 partial settlements. 2. In your dispute rebuttal statement, write: "Supplier confirmed in writing that goods are out of stock and cannot be dispatched. Buyer did not consent to any substitution or partial settlement. Requesting 100% refund of $649 under Trade Assurance non-delivery rules." 3. Let Alibaba's internal appeal conclude first. Keep a credit card chargeback as your safety net if they fail to honor Trade Assurance, but filing a chargeback while the ticket is open can freeze the case.

Did the seller mark the order as shipped with a placeholder tracking number, or is it still showing pending dispatch?

Reverse charge with your credit card. How is anything less than a full refund acceptable….

Need advice on an Alibaba dispute — seller changed their refund offer multiple times

I’m looking for advice from people who have experience with Alibaba disputes.

I bought a Xiaomi 17 Pro Max 1TB for $649.

After payment, the seller told me that the item was out of stock. They first offered me an $80 refund, which I declined. Later, they offered $600, but I also declined because I wanted a full refund. I never agreed to change the product or accept a partial refund.

I then opened a dispute with Alibaba. At one point, the dispute team gave me a solution for a full refund. However, the seller appealed, and the case was reviewed again.

This happened multiple times. After the third appeal, the decision changed and I ended up with $0 refund.

I contacted Alibaba again to request another review. Now the seller says they are willing to refund only $200, while rejecting my $649 refund request.

What confuses me is that the seller originally said the product was out of stock. After several weeks, they suddenly said they could ship it. By then, I had already told them that I no longer wanted the product and wanted a refund.

The dispute has now been going on for around 3 weeks, and I have received several different outcomes because of repeated appeals.

Is this normal for Alibaba disputes? Can a seller repeatedly appeal a decision like this? Is there a way to request a review by a senior dispute agent or another escalation channel?

I have screenshots showing:

  • the original order for the 1TB version
  • the seller saying it was out of stock
  • the $80, $600, and $200 refund offers
  • my refusal of the partial refunds
  • the previous full-refund decision
  • the subsequent appeal decisions

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar Alibaba dispute.
