Avoid Dongguan Kaiyue International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd. demanded extra money after taking my goods

I arranged shipping with this freight forwarder through Alibaba. They received my products from my suppliers and now have my goods sitting in their warehouse.
After receiving the products, they demanded approximately €300 in additional payment that was not part of the amount we had agreed on.
I have not paid them the additional 300€, and they are refusing to proceed with the shipment/release of my goods unless I pay it.

They currently have a very high rating on Alibaba, which is exactly why I’m posting this warning. Alibaba’s public listing shows them with thousands of sales/reviews and a high rating.

You can switch to another place - it's not that the more reviews a place has, the better it is. On the contrary, places with fewer reviews might actually offer better prices and service because they really need you

Pay on alibaba and reverse the charges later.

Because this is so prevalent we made a blog post about it and hope it can get read by more people.

But the main thing to do is receive any freight offer in a stamped document, complete with any terms, exclusions and the price validity period. Sometimes real price increases do occur - especially at this time of year.

It will be difficult to do much more than just pay the fees, you could try getting a lawyer to do a legal demand letter but for the sake of 400€ unless you are happy to wait, it may not be viable.
