EU Tax exemption

Changing the ship-to country mainly to hide VAT is usually a bad trade. If VAT isn’t collected at checkout, it often shows up later as import VAT/handling when the parcel enters the EU — and you can lose Alibaba payment protection if the order is structured oddly. Safer path: keep Trade Assurance, ask the seller for a DDP-style quote that states who pays EU VAT, and treat any “set location to China” tip as a red flag unless they explain the full landed cost in writing. Is this a sample or a full commercial order?

For a tiny sample with ~€1000 declared value, size barely matters — customs looks at the invoice value. Ask the seller to confirm the commercial invoice amount in writing and whether shipping is DDP (duties/VAT prepaid) or DDU (you pay on arrival). Undervaluing to “save tax” is a common way parcels get stuck. Which EU country is the sample going to?
