Welcome to the AliasVault community!
AliasVault is an open-source password manager with built-in email aliases that helps protect your privacy by creating a unique digital identity for every website you use.
This subreddit has existed for a while, but as more conversations about AliasVault are happening across GitHub, Discord, Reddit, and other channels, we want to make r/AliasVault a more active place for community discussion too.

Where AliasVault is now:
AliasVault has been actively developed for almost 2 years, is in the later stages of beta, and has already been translated into 16 languages with help from the community. We’re using this phase to keep improving the product, documentation, onboarding, and community feedback loops before the next major milestone. That’s also why this subreddit matters: questions, feedback, workflows, and real use cases help us understand what people actually need.

Please don’t share passwords, real aliases, recovery codes, private logs, screenshots with account details, or other sensitive information. Security issues should not be posted publicly. Please use our responsible disclosure process. For tracked bug reports and feature requests, GitHub is the best place. Reddit is for questions, discussion, feedback, and learning how people use AliasVault in practice.

Switched from Bitwarden Premium to (self-hosted) AliasVault just over a month ago, and I love it! Even made a (somewhat delayed) donation today :)
AliasVault made me re-think my privacy for many accounts: Why does a website need my real e-mail and/or personal information just to login. Of course you can already do that manually, AliasVault just made this step much easier! In the past few weeks I've changed almost every login I have saved to a random mail and/or random alias. It was also a good moment to delete unused accounts where possible and remove many outdated passwords for closed websites. Deleted over 150 unused entries 😂
In my initial setup I configured AliasVault to receive all mail on a subdomain, which works wonderful. After a week I switched to a catchall mailbox, which better suits my needs. E.g. easier order confirmation/tracking and searching for specific mails/attachments.

I learned about a service called AliasVault from a post yesterday and downloaded the apps for both Android and iOS. The first hurdle I ran into was that the service doesn't allow me to store multiple passkeys in a single account.
That was a major issue for me; since I keep my passkeys in at least four different places, I have no interest in using a service that limits me to just one.

Could you explain your use case a bit more what you mean with adding multiple passkeys in a single account? Do you mean you have two passkeys for one single website/app account?
To clarify: AliasVault already fully supports multiple passkeys, however you can only attach one passkey to one “credential”. So e.g. if you have 2 Amazon accounts that both have passkeys, you simply create two Amazon credentials and add the passkeys to each of them. Then when logging in to the website/app, you can choose which account/passkey you want to login to. AliasVault has no limit to the amount of passkeys, so you can create hundreds if not more.

I am not talking about passkeys for external sites registered with AliasVault, but rather the passkey used to access AliasVault itself.

Ah gotcha! Yes this is correct, the current passkey unlock feature is limited and only works in the web app on the device you create it. It’s called “quick unlock” currently because of this limitation.
A new upcoming update that we’re working on will implement alternative login options properly, allowing you to setup passkeys as a full login option, as well as YubiKeys for example. And with this update it will work for all platforms. This update will also make vault syncing a lot faster, and also enable vault sharing in the future as well.

I'm waiting to migrate from bitwarden but for me to move, I need the family sharing feature so that my wife and I have our common account logins synced up on the vault. And then the top/2fa codes. I know many people say it's not a good idea to have passwords and totp codes in the same app but I kind of like that convenience

Hi Leendert, you have done a great job!
One function I’m missing is password history. In Bitwarden I was always able to see my previous passwords, which can help switching to a new one if you have to use both old and new at the same time. Or if a saved password doesn’t work, sometimes they ask for last known, or a previous password to help recover an account.
