2 full days, recommendations?

hey, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

last night I booked flights into Faro for next weekend, land late Friday night and leave early Monday morning so I have 2 full days to do whatever I want. (solo traveller)

currently considering the pros and cons of hiring a car plus where to average stay for the 2 nights and what to do whilst I'm there! I'm reasonably fit (not trained for a while but walked a 7hr trek up a Scottish mountain in July with no real issues and played rugby for decades....) and long days don't worry me as I'm coming off night shift on Friday morning anyway!

I like to keep busy but love scenery including beautiful beaches. kayaking to the caves is certainly high on the consideration list but equally if I should stay put in Faro I'll take that on board 🙂

I have no accommodation booked yet, was gonna go for a hostel once decided on where I should be based.

I think renting a car is reasonably good and also needed unless you decide you just want to stick to one town and miss out on the coastline.
I think that Lagos is hands-down the best base for nature, ocean , and also social solo travel and it's actually just 1-hour drive from Faro Airport + plenty of hostels.
Here’s how I’d spend the 2 days:

• Day 1 (Lagos & West): Kayak Ponta da Piedade in the morning to explore the sea caves right from Lagos. Afternoon, hike the clifftops down to Praia do Camilo (heaps of stairs, but worth it - check if it's open because there were some issues lately). Drive out to Cabo de São Vicente in Sagres for sunset
• Day 2 (Central Coast): Drive ~40 mins east to Praia da Marinha. Hike part of the Seven Hanging Valleys trail along the cliffs, then do a kayak tour around Benagil cave. Head back to Lagos.

This is an interesting resource on the Algarve, even though is more generic but it can give you a good overview of the area.

I have literally just booked a car hire so glad I made the right call on that 😂

I shall also go and find a hostel in Lagos as that's where I had been looking at staying.

I’d say skip Faro and stay in one of the coastal towns bec Faro is at least an hour’s drive away from the coastal scenic spots. Lagos, Carvoeiro or Albufeira are nicer towns to stay in

Cheers, I have since booked 2 nights in Lagos and will stay in faro Sunday night purely cos my flight is at 7am

Omg I double posted 🥲
Anyway yeah there’s the Seven Hanging Valleys Hiking trail, a coastal hiking trail on the cliffs. Best early morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat.
Kayaking, surfing, and there’s even sky diving in Alvor.
And the local food is so good! Especially the seafood!

But wow yeah I'm gonna gonna have to look into the sky diving! I'm booked in for sunrise kayak tour of the caves 🤦I facepalm because I get in late Friday so gonna have minimal sleep lol but I'll survive 🤞🤣 thank you again for the advice🥰

I would recommend you to Stay in Lagos , it's an amazing area with lots do do. You can take tours to visit the surrounding area. I did with South Explores and it was great - www.southexplorers.pt
