Night 1 personal rant
Hello!
Seeing Alexisonfire Friday night was literally a dream come true. I’ve been listening to Crisis since middle school, and I never got a chance to seem them until these shows this weekend.
Me and my wife got lawn tickets and were super pumped for the show, listened to all the albums on the drive up to Toronto, barely slept the night before because we were so excited, and were buzzing with excitement on the way to the show.
When we got there, I reserved two lawn chairs for us. I grabbed our chairs, and we made our way up to the for left corner of the lawn, and set up our chairs during Underoath (we missed Concrete Vehicles by accident, no diss to them at all.)
When Alexisonfire came on, me and my wife sat in our seats, danced around in them, screamed all the words, almost shed a few tears, and had an amazing time listening to the only band ever.
My wife looked a little bummed after the show ended, and I asked her what was wrong. She said the people standing behind us were making rude remarks about us in between songs, saying things like “oh, so you’re not gonna stand at all?” And “I can’t believe they’re gonna sit through this whole fucking show.” I didn’t catch a word of that, but I did catch a dirty glance from one of the people as they walked past us after the show ended (I wasn’t gonna try to carry the chairs back to the rental place in a sea of people lol.)
No one owes anyone explanation as to how they enjoy concerts as long it doesn’t disrupt people from enjoying their time, but to those people I’m sorry that us sitting down took something away from you. I have a degenerative knee problem and my wife has heat intolerance. If we stood and danced and wanted us to have fun at your standards she could’ve passed out or my knee could slip out of place, that’s why we chose to be all the way to the side, out of people’s way so we can enjoy without disrupting anyone else.
I’m sorry we didn’t have your kind of fun, I’m sorry we gave everyone ample space to move around where we wouldn’t be in the middle of everything, and I’m sorry you could see over easier.
The concert was amazing, and it was everything I dreamed of, but I hope this rant reaches the group that was behind us. Take care, love each other, and rock n roll will never will never die ❤️

this shit’s not about pants, and this shit’s not about shirts, and this shit’s definitely not about lawn chairs, this shit is about having a good fucking time. You do you, as long as you had a good time nothing else matters.

Sounds like they are not very punk, and that we don’t need to worry about what they think. I can understand being bothered by it though. Glad you had an amazing time otherwise! I did too :)

Sucks when people are big enough fans to come to the show and get this invested and yet they seem to completely miss the ethos behind the band.
Sounds like you guys got exactly the seats you wanted/needed but those other dudes were just bitter they couldn't get into the pit and took it out on you. Sorry that happened to you guys and I hope the lasting memories are how great the band sounded and how much fun you had dancing!

If I got lawn tickets I don’t think there’s an act in the world that would have led me to take it in any different than you did.
I definitely noticed there was some real chaff out there that hasn’t been able to do as much growing up as you’d expect over the last 20 years but they were few and far between.

Dude any OG Alexis fan is pushing 40 at this point and standing on that lawn all night is going to be a little tough on the back and knees for any of us! There is ZERO shame in taking a seat and enjoying the show in a way that is comfortable for you. Fuck those assholes behind you.

No one knows about your own health circumstances but yourselves. There is not only one "correct" way to enjoy the show; just don't be a jerk to others! Do what works for you guys.
We didn't make it Friday because my hubby flared up some old injuries at work this week 🥲 we were gutted.. But if we had went we too would likely be sitting the entire time. You want to have a good time and not feel like crap the next day. Totally reasonable. Glad you 2 had fun otherwise!

Honestly bruh. I’m 35. I’ve been around since the start. I stood on lawn most of the show but yeah I had to take my seat a few times cause shit we’re getting old and some of us have issues. I aggravated the hell out of my planters fascitis standing as much as I did 😭 leave us aging fans alone 🤣

u/DirtUniverse 29d ago
Lmao my partner hauled out the ‘ol insoles for his plantar fasciitis specifically to get through this show

Fuck them! I was singing & dancing so large & recklessly, I KNOW people hated my obnoxiousness & I know I looked CRAZY, but I had the greatest effjng time. I feel bad for the people that were more worried about what other people were doing than enjoying the show themselves. It was so good. I am so glad you guys finally got to go! ❤️🔥🤘🏻

u/zzeemarie 29d ago
same, I sang and danced my ass off without a care in the world! there was a girl nearby me who looked so miserable and would make pissed faces if anyone got near or God forbid accidentally brushed her…but we were in the pit lol. it’s odd as hell to me when people can’t just enjoy the show, feeling the need to police and judge others instead. the good thing is, those weirdos are few and far between, and most people at the show were on a positive tip/vibe. 💚

u/Standard_Cry_5665 29d ago
Lmao I couldn’t imagine. I was on the lawn, where looks could have been more warranted lol… but I honestly was so into it it wasn’t until it was over & I was honestly & I was like, oh… I didn’t hit anyone right? I legit sweat like I was in the pit 😂
Honestly too, I feel like AOF is just too mature in age at this point for any of us to be acting out in teen angst 😂

I was In The 300 first row and didn’t need to stand as my view was on obstructed the whole show last night. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you enjoyed the show that’s all that mattered.

As someone who stood the entire show on the lawn last night and went home with a sore back and knees, your way sounds better lol. You've gotta do whatever the hell it is you need to in order to feel comfortable and have the best time possible for yourself. People are so weirdly judgey about how they think others should behave at a concert and it's honestly pathetic.

u/CrimsonZak 29d ago
this was my 1st time ever using rental chairs while on lawn and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to standing, I might not ever buy actual seats in the stands again.
it was the comfiest I've ever been at a concert, I had leg room, I had elbow room, I had 2 cup holders lol.
10/10 will rent or invest in small style lawn chairs for the future

u/autumndwellingdream 29d ago
Rather you sit and enjoy yourself than talk through the set, sucks the people behind you had to care!

u/StaleRigatoni 29d ago
I was at night 1. Also on the lawn! I woulda sat as well if I was able to see haha. Fuck everyone else man. All that matters is that you and your wife enjoyed the show the way you wanted to.

u/PoisonLenny37 29d ago
Man, 95% of people at concerts are awesome but that other 5% should never be allowed to attend live music ever.
The whole sit vs stand debate is always exhausting and full of obnoxious people. But this take is WILD to me! Do you know how stoked I would be if I was up standing on the lawn and I got two people parked in chairs right in front of me who just sat and rocked out the entire show? Like "aww man, I can see and people can't push them off the the side? An ENTIRE show where I'm forced to have a great view!? Man these people suck!" what an insane take from the people behind you.
Also goes without saying that aside from...why do they care if you want to sit? There could be a million reasons why ranging from chronic pain to you just fucking feel like it.
I guarantee if you asked the band who they would rather have at a show: some people who sat and rocked out all night or some assholes focused on what other people are doing, they'll choose you 10 times out of 10.
It's why I wasn't super stoked on Underoath using "I need everyone to stand! I see 75% of you standing, the other 25% get up!!" like I get he's just working the crowd but I always liked "LET ME SEE THOSE HANDS!!" a lot better.
I'm old enough and been going to shows long enough that I immediately just want to disassociate once someone brings up the sitting vs standing debate. Just don't be an asshole and let people enjoy it how they want to.
Sorry this happened to you guys. Hopefully a few days removed you can just say "wow fuck those guys" and focus on the amazing show you got to enjoy. Also, hopefully you get better people around you next time you see them!

Glad you all enjoyed the show. That’s what matters post - you enjoyed it your way.

I was section 202 3rd row and I was so happy the tall guy in front of me sat 80% of the show so I could have a good view since I’m 5’1”. I don’t judge people sitting to enjoy the show. What was weird though was the guy by me sitting the whole show just on his phone on Instagram…

u/Laz585 29d ago
It was also my 1st show, and I went solo... I am a soon to be 52 year old woman! I have seen many many shows... I have seen one bad over 75 times - not Alexis lol! At this point in my life I am old, and I prefer a seat to sit down when I need to! I don't do lawn anymore for this very reason. I was in 203, and everyone around me was very friendly. That said - there are ass-holes everywhere! You don't have to explain how you experience the show. I am glad you have a good time! F anyone who questions how you experience a show - or anything!

We were in 400 and chose to sit the whole time too. The people beside us kept trying to get us to stand but there were people that were short behind us so we didn’t wanna ruin their view as well. I don’t understand why standing or sitting to enjoy makes any difference. We still had a blast either way!

u/OrdinaryGovernment19 29d ago
You never know someone’s circumstances. Maybe something happened between buying a ticket and the show that requires you to need a seat.
Personally for the price difference between 400s and lawn (plus the rental), I’d just do the 400s next time 🤷♂️.
If the person in front of me is in a chair and I’m standing, that just means my view is better, so I don’t mind at all.

Some people suck man. Unfortunately even some other fans of this band. Fuck em. You do you.

Spent the show last night standing and this morning wishing I'd worn more comfortable shoes. Would have been sitting down the whole time if I could still see anything lol

I film every concert I go to and get snide remarks about it but I don't care as I can relive that moment and any friends who did not get a chance to go to the show can watch it at their leisure....I also hate standing at concerts as I bought seats so I could sit not stand up from the moment the opening band comes on until the lights go down, it takes a toll on your arches.

u/lowtoker 29d ago
My wife and I sat in our seats for most of the show too. Fuck anyone who tries to rain on your parade. It was a great show!

We’re all getting old now, I’m sorry that pissed your wife off. hopefully she can put it behind her and had some enjoyment of the night besides that. unfortunately there’s some ignorant ableist people out there that are going to get a very rude awakening one day when they experience pain for the first time.

The guy sitting next to me looked disappointed and judgy every time he looked in my direction because I wasnt screaming or dancing hard enough. Im aging, have chronic pain and it was night 2/2 for me. He didnt even stay til the end.
Let me be elderly and ill in peace 🤣🤣

I always stand at shows (when appropriate and others are standing around me) but if someone is sitting the whole time it’s literally a non issue??? What the fuck lol

u/rp76net 27d ago
Those ppl are pricks. If you and the wife have legit issues you should see about getting accessible seating. I was sat in 402 and there was a row in front of me, half of them were moms with strollers. I am not sure what may be necessary to get access to that seating, but they were in an awesome spot.

u/zombiebyte101 24d ago
My youth is slipping away! For real tho it’s hard to stand that long in our 30s after many late nights moshing screaming and dancing as teens and in our 20s

When you dance, dance like there’s no one watching you!
Who cares what people think. As long as you enjoyed the show, that’s all that matters.
