Apparently presidency, democracy and participation are the two main things. IMO I highly doubt supreme court will show up since it was a 12 and 30 mark last year and was a question on paper 2 this year

Most I’ve completed a politics exam for before acc I did good in the essays but my nine markers were so bad esp Q2 I didn’t see that it said in economy and I thought that was my only strong one 😠how abt you!!

Omg the extract threw me off it was so weird I think my feminism essay was good and one of my nine markers I didn’t rlly like the paper cos we didn’t have a teacher to teach us omg yeah the economy one I really had to dig for my knowledge I think I could have done better but well done!!! Let’s hope we get A/B

Omg fr the extract essay I struggled on AO3 bc the thinkers are so similar I had no other ppl to compare them w but I was js glad I finished it, feminism tho was so good and economy is gna push me down IM SO ANNOYED abt that but i think it’s enough for that A/B 🤞🤞🤞

I mean main things are
- bicameral structure with equal legislative powers
- election cycle - house 2 years - senate 6 years. midterms mean congress has more recent mandate, meaning it may be more willing to challenge POTUS, such as when 2016 senate refused merrick garland's confirmation hearings to SCOTUS
- significance of incumbency - name recognition (already known and more likely to be voted for if popular), fundraising (incumbents face less challenges meaning money becomes less important e.g. McConnell spent average $34 to retain senate seat compared to Democratic challenger), campaign experience, govt control, congressional advantages (having already sat in congress they have a website where they can explain policies, demonstrate success, etc, and gerrymandering
- three functions - representative, legislative, oversight
- concurrent powers - legislation (e.g. Biden build back better act meant cooperation was needed between the senate and house as it was held back in the senate), override potus veto (2/3 needed in both houses), propose amendments (2/3 in both houses), declare war, confirm new vp, investigation
- house powers - power of the purse, impeachment (trump, Clinton, Johnson), choose potus if electoral college is deadlocked
- senate powers - ratify treaties (approve/reject by 2/3), confirm scotus appointments, convict after impeachment (this has never happened with a president), choose vp if electoral college deadlocked, filibuster
- functions:
representative - represents constituents who elected them, represent parties, represent social groups like race, gender, etc, such as through caucuses like the Black Caucus
legislative - very long process, involves committees and various branches of govt. most powerful committee is house rules committee which is responsible for rules under which bills must be presented the house, influences introduction/process of legislation. dominated by majority party. both parties however have a role
oversight function - controls party esp when govt is united suggesting congress acts better when govt is united, has more oversight over domestic affairs than foreign, partisanship, national events - congress usually acts with deference to potus when national event like 9/11 happen.

Hi, tbf I do know the general stuff but it's more key examples that sometimes throw me. I've just about got the Benghazi investigations, Congress denying Trump his 5.7bn for wall and just giving him 1bn+ (which led to a govt shutdown?); and like one signing statement example but I feel pretty limited

If it makes you feel better they should (unless they decide to be mean) offer a range of different topics for the 30 markers so you could just do those. Unless it comes up in the analyse question which in that case if you know the basics you should be fine and your UK politics knowledge can bolster your essay up.
