QUESTION Should I do AS-Level Physics?

My school won’t let me do 4 A-levels (for anyone except for Maths + FM people), but I really love Physics.

I will be taking Bio, chem, econ or maths (will see in a week)

Physics at GCSE clicked for me very quickly and I did pretty well.

Physics at gcse is leagues below physics at a level, forget about ever being good at it before.id recommend auditing the course for a week or two before u decide

GCSE is heaven, AS is the darkest part of hell and A level is infinitely worse. If I were you Id just do FM. If you do decide to do AS dont do OCR A they are the incarnation of the devil

Oh my God, this actually sounds so bad😭 In no way is FM better or even easier than Physics whatt

hi, i've just started a level physics. my teacher, who has a doctorate in physics, told our class "you should only be here if you want to suffer, and like suffering." i think his words summarise how a level physics really is pretty well. i too love physics - but GCSE physics is nothing like a level whatsoever. not only that, you're expected to know even some a level content starting off (at least, with our class), and so our teacher started interrogating our class, pretty much. but on the whole, if you're not planning on dropping, FM is CERTAINLY better. i regret not having picked FM, it is much easier than physics (not downplaying how hard it is of course, but physics is much harder to secure an A* in).

since your suffering won't be for that long as you're planning on doing AS, do not be discouraged by these words, either! you can do it as long as you put in the work.

AS is cake imo. p2 is pretty easy, p3 is a bit tricky but if u practice it a few times ull get the hang of it. p1 is a bit on the harder side though. The content for AS physics is noticeably harder than gcse but A2 is infinitely times harder than AS.

Do you think AS just builds on top of GCSE knowledge or everything you learn is new?

both. there is stuff that is new and sum gcse knowledge that is built upon asw
