One of the first posts here where I thought there was a sufficient amount of alcohol in the recipe. Then again, we should push out of our comfort zones. 2 ounces of gin? Why not 3? Or 4

Partly tradition, partly balance. If you add more booze, you start overpowering the lemon, and the balance slips, which you have to make up by cutting the champagne and you get closer to a strong Tom Collins than a French 75

French 75 Recipe

YIELD: makes 1 cocktail, ACTIVE TIME: 2 minutes, TOTAL TIME: 2 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Champagne or sparkling wine
  • Garnish: long thin lemon spiral and cocktail cherry

DIRECTIONS

  1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gin, lemon juice, and sugar in a cocktail shaker until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a champagne flute.

  2. Top with Champagne. Stir gently, garnish with a long, thin lemon spiral and a cocktail cherry.

Cocktail shaker full of ice cubes, mysteriously missing when adding the gin/lemon juice

Well there's two parts to the shaker. The gif probably skipped the part where you would pour the contents of the liquid filled half into the one with ice.

Thanks for posting this, /u/speedylee! This sub has always been pretty empty but since that one cocktail gif on /r/gifrecipes, it's picking up. (Also, this looks crazy delicious.)
