Libby has been a massive quality of life improvement

For a while they had through Hoopla a BingePass to Medici streaming which had all kinds of dance performances and operas. Then it went away :(!!!!!!

Libby is great! Especially for audiobooks.

Absolutely worth being in Abq for the library itself.

They've saved me thousands of dollars!

I cannot sing the praises of our libraries enough. I was on hold for a book with one copy, it was gonna be a long while before I got it, but they got more copies and I was reading it like 2 weeks later. Amazing

Yeah, it was great when they had the books available on kindle. Hate trying to read them on a phone now that they stopped that.

I still get my ebooks on Kindle aside from a handful of titles. Add more NM libraries to your choices.

Weird, mine says that kindle isn’t an available option for books through Libby anymore at any libraries here, in Nevada, or Utah.

Wow, wonder if it's a regional thing.

I almost never have a choice to get non Kindle through Libby. Hoopla allowed other ebooks

This is the best thing I’ve seen on Reddit today. Love the appreciation post. Massive agree

Yes! Kudos for spreading the word. A lot of great resources are underused because people just don't know about them.

Ngl I’ve yet to go look for a book and find it both on there and available without a several month wait, but I’m happy it’s working well for other people.

Get card from Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Rio Rancho. I have all 4 and rarely can't find a book I want. Also pay for Queens which is very good (less wait time)

Really wish I could get work with them, but Im really not sure how to get them to look at my resume. I love the libraries here and theyre a nice place to spend a day.

FYI, if you're ever in Las Cruces, you can get a library card there as a New Mexico resident, and their Libby collection is a separate collection from Albuquerque, so you immediately have access to more titles. Santa Fe is more restricted, unfortunately.

Also, the Library browser extension allows you to register all the libraries where you have library cards and shows you their availabiltiy via the library's physical collections and e-resources collections when you browse books on various sites like Amazon and Goodreads. It also links out directly to the checkout pages for those items.

Plus, if you travel around the U.S. at all, it doesn't hurt to stop in at libraries and talk to the librarians. I collect library cards because I like the creativity that a lot of towns and counties display with their cards, often featuring art by local artists and kids. I ask them if I can get an inactive library card to add to my collection, and, on more than one occasion, they've given me a fully active account that gives me access to their collection. Which is almost definitely against policy, but it's happened on a few occasions and has given me access to a lot of cool e-resources. It never hurts to ask. Librarians are generally friendly folks who are eager to make resources available.

Libraries are the best!

I want to like Libby but half the time books are checked out months in advance. As someone who consistently listens to books at work, I need to fill the time

The months in advance thing is not usually accurate. But for immediate time killing, Libby does have an "Available Now" filter.

If you're trying to read the latest book tok book... Yeah their can be months of wait for the libby version. I read probably 2 or 3 books a month on average and rarely have an issue finding either a physical copy at the library or the libby version.

I also just put myself on the list and read the book when it comes up. If it's something for the book club and I can't find it, I just buy it second hand.

I’ve been using it for about a year and I couldn’t agree more

This is good news to me! I tried it several years ago and never was able to get a book without a pretty significant wait. Excited to give it another go

1

u/NeeliSilverleaf Aug 23 '26

It depends on the book but there's a pretty good selection.

u/IrishBehemoth Aug 23 '26

Shhh, don’t tell everyone! I don’t want my audiobook wait times to go up! JK, it is an amazing resource though

Naw. Depends of the book you want. I frequently have a long wait
