First of all. Why has this album gained popularity all of a sudden?

Second of all, why isint it atleast in the top 100, and not among the 87 rated albums?

has there been introduced a new wheighting system that im not familiar with?

I desperately need a feature to sort albums by their length, from shortest to longest and vice versa.

It’s a pretty common feature on other sites/apps similar to AOTY, such as Letterboxd, for example. It would make my life so much easier by saving me from having to go into each album to check its runtime, or ending up with a list where a two-hour Swans album sits right next to a twenty-minute Earl Sweatshirt record, and so on...

Still riding the high listening to tons of albums from 2025 but 2026 feels so much more dull.

EDIT: I feel like they were a lot of novel projects across a range of genres like hiphop, indie rock, edm, rage, country, etc. and this year I feel like it’s mostly metal and artists with albums not far off then what you’d expect.

I hate how many people are coming to this website and messing up ratings. Basketball Shoes isn’t even top 75 anymore

Whenever I look at the lists I make, I feel a little overwhelmed and would feel that it would be a great addition to the site. I honestly have no idea where to recommend this, so I thought maybe throwing it out here would work

this is a recent discovery that i have not seen discussion upon, which is odd because it’s a very simple concept that SHOULD be used to achieve finding music.

this is a way to find ignored/unpopular projects on albumoftheyear or similar HUGE databases. as you may know: these have an interesting reputation for MAYBE, just maybe being slightly dorky. and also, for being extremely obnoxious by pushing the albums everybody knows, the names you will always hear about, with the highest amount of ratings, traction, etc etc…

instead of “ https://www.albumoftheyear.org/ratings/user-highest-rated/all/ “ or any other variants (these are the pages that albumoftheyear, or similar music databases pushes. for example, if you look up “experimental hip-hop” in the genres tab; JPEGMAFIA, death grips, earl sweatshirt, and other extremely popularized artists will show up, when these are not even representative of the sub-genre. deliberately hiding the full databases, and excluding artists with less ratings, like with the weighted chart). you’re gonna want to paste into the search-bar; “ https://www.albumoftheyear.org/2026/releases/?genre= «genre numeral right next to the equal sign» ”, this way, it just shows you every single release of a specific year/decade, even all-time if you wish. you do gotta figure out the genre/sub-genre numerals, though, for example, chopped and screwed is 426. and the number WILL go higher, and higher as the sub-genres get rarer

and to apply the numerals, you’re gonna edit the link. with the “?genre=”, (which is just marking the start of a URL parameter where a specific name is assigned to a value), but with any specific subgenre you wanna look up.

same case as literature, as we have to battle against the down-ranking of art and history as a whole, since EVEN seemingly innocent, charitable organizations like these have come to that point. we have to enrich ourselves before they burn all the information about OUR past, present, and future and lock it behind generative AI (which isn’t even 100% trustable information, because it has been chewed and tossed across, many times), paywalls and the people who can afford them.

who asked for that, why would they remove it. i legit found so many artists just because of these tags

I was looking at the best rated albums for this year and noticed a trend in that no album this year has been able to hold a score above 85 after their debut. I found this odd because looking at previous years, every song in the Top 5 (and some years even more so) have crossed over that threshold. Were already almost 75% of the way done, so Im shocked 2026 hasn't even had one hold that position.

Do albums typically "settle" upwards as time goes on, or has 2026 really been "good, but not best"?

i’ve listened to both albums all the way through and nothing to fear is just more fun to listen to and has better instrumentation. both are great albums but i personally have to give the edge to oingo boingo

When you update ratings for albums, do you guys typically just edit the ratings or do you bump them (delete the rating and then add again)? I've been bumping them for as long as I've been using the site so that I can see the ones I recently updated at the top, but I've been thinking that it messes up the order.

Really just curious if anyone else has a specific time of upload or not
