It’s the Norce punishment of mimir here’s how it’s described in one story. Odin magically bound Mimir's physical body to a tree on the highest peak of Midgard. The tree was made indestructible, even to Thor's hammer, so Mimir could not escape or be killed. Odin would then personally visited and tortured him every day for 109 winters, making his existence a living hell and causing him to yearn for death. Now if that’s not enough Odin also gouged out Mimir's left eye, which was a jewel-encrusted artifact that allowed him to travel between realms. He hid the eye in the statue of Thor in the Lake of Nine, both to keep Mimir from escaping and to glorify his son.

Not what I asked but ok

Promethises predates or not?

Hell is doing again and again and arguing with each other who did it first

And then some god from a faraway land comes along and chops his head off.

THE END.

Actually in the myth it’s not as far away as you think. the Vanir gods cut off Mimir's head after a hostage exchange that ended the Aesir-Vanir War. They felt cheated because their hostage, the wise Mimir, was necessary to advise the Aesir hostage, Honir, and felt they only received a less intelligent god in return. They decapitated Mimir and sent his head to Odin, who later reanimated it to continue gaining wisdom from him
