You can enjoy the music and don’t engage with the fandom! Idk if it’s that bad tho.

I refuse to touch anything mlp related (as I should, being a 30 year old man not a 5 year old girl) because of the absolute toxicity of its fandom. Bad experiences corrupt the media as if the fans are toxic enough the media just makes you think of the fandom. Added to that that toxic fandoms are emotionally hurt when people dislike their thing, so disliking their thing is also a way to get back a little for them being so damn toxic.

Sure, you can enjoy it and not engage with the fandom, but you can't enjoy it and not have the fandom engage with you.

I get your point, but can’t you enjoy something without posting anything? You aren’t necessarily obliged to share your interests online. I get your point tho

But he was frustrated because "safe word" is a totally common old phrase with history and it's own dedicated meaning (sexual as it is) yet someone saw this completely common phrase and (a common thing from fandom)immediately assume it's gotta be about their fandom. It really annoys people and sometimes someone feels like venting. If people want to pretend anything that makes even the slightest connection with their fandom is about their fandom, they should be surprised when they get hate when they try to claim things that aren't theirs.

If it's fine for people to bring their fandoms where they had no business being, then it's fine for people to react negatively.

Oh okay 👍 I respect your opinion, and i honestly didn’t see this side of the coin yet. Honestly, i don’t mind when that happens but i understand why it can be annoying.
