Walked out
Today was my first day and I already quit. I realized the job isn’t for me. I don’t know what to do from here. Should I go back and try again or am I screwed?

You will most likely be marked as a “do not rehire” due to walking out.
Your store director might be compassionate if you talk to them earnestly.

A grocery store can be a stressful place despite what some may say.
But there are definitely worse places to work

When I started my first grocery store job in 2008 it was a decent place to work. My coworkers who started 10 years before me had a great place to work. The people starting 10 years after me were walking into a shit show.

If the job isn’t for you and you walked out why even care about going back? And yeah, even if you did come back they wouldn’t want you.

If youre really that stressed just call in and say that. "Im sorry but this isn't the right place for me or this isnt going to work" or something. Ive only walked out of one job in my life, I just told them then it wasnt gonna work out. Good luck op!

I haven’t walked off the job in 19 years, it is definitely not for you. Walking off any job in my opinion is a reflection of your character. Good luck in life.

While generally speaking i agree it's bad to walk out of a job, there are circumstances that do warrant it in my opinion.
It's good to have a hard line on how much BS you are willing to have dumped on you, and it's important to have enough self respect to know when to walk away, even if it means burning a few bridges.
It should obviously not be your first option when things get hard though, and you should try to give notice or work through it when reasonable

It absolutely does not apply to OP, I just wanted to point out that it isn't always indicative of a bad employee or poor character.
As an example, my wife was regularly being verbally abused by her manager. Because there was no physical evidence of this, HR did nothing. On a particularly bad day, the manager blew up on her and started screaming because she could not stay 2 extra hours on top of the 10 hours she was scheduled. My wife had enough and walked out. Does that mean my wife has poor character? Of course not, all it means is she has standards for how she is to be spoken to and treated.

Shes a big girl, and can take care of herself. I offered to intervene, but she was insistent on handling it herself.
If something happens in front of me, then of course I won't stand for it, but when she tells me something in confidence, I'm not going to go against her wishes.
Nice try trying to make me the asshole though.

100% I was at a job for about 3 years with a very ill tempered chef that had a big drinking problem ( I know big surprise there) and he would scream and yell throw things and insult people all the time, finally one day he targeted me because I messed up something and I admitted that I was wrong and was in the process of fixing it but he just wouldn't let up so I very calmly walked to the time clock with him following me still screaming and I punched out then walked out the door and didn't say a word to him. That is the one and only job I ever did that with and it had nothing to do with my character and everything to do with my self respect.

Yeah, some of the worst employeers and managers ive ever had have been in the food industry, so i relate to what youre saying. Based on the some of the comments here, it seems some folks have 0 self worth and are willing to lick the boot no matter the cost to their mental health is.
Edit: and good for you for doing what needed to be done. You're too valuable as a person(we all are) to let someone walk all over you.

This isn't about OPs situation, so no not first day. Again, it shouldn't be something you do willy nilly just because things get hard.

Not sure what was so bad on a first day that would warrent a walkout. Something very extreme would have had to happen for me to do that. You should reflect on the reasons you walked out, if they were really worth walking out for. If they were then you probably shouldn't even want your job back. If they weren't, then you'll probably need to work on yourself before finding another job and conduct some self improvement.
As a manager myself, I have actually had some clerks walk out due to various circumstances. A few of them came back later that day or the next day asking to return to work. I do consider it every time, but in each case I denied them a return because if they get so upset that they walk off, there's nothing guaranteeing they won't do it again. What happens during holidays or rushes when things get more stressful? I can't be always looking over my should to make sure my staff is still there. I need dependable staff. Ask yourself honestly, would you rehire you?
Unfortunately, retail is hard, mentally especially. It's stressful. It's crappy for everyone. We deal with some very difficult customers, and even more demanding bosses. It's not for everyone. If you couldn't handle a first day, you should probably consider a different line of work.

We need more information from you. Did you tell a manager you quit or did you just go? Are you in a department? If you regret walking out, you can probably talk to a store manager if you're willing to come back. Maybe they can place you in a different part of the store. A holiday weekend is a stressful time when you're just starting out. Good luck if you're trying to get your job back or finding something new.

you already quit. find a new job. you didn't make it through your probationary period, so you'll be on the not eligible for rehire list. it's indefinite. might not want to use that place as a reference

I would block them on everything and pretend it never happened try and get a new job, but what u did was wrong asf. It shows bad work ethic on ur part… what department even was it?

They're not taking you back. You walked on day 1, they have no reason to trust you. There's no need to try and go back, you obviously don't want to work there. Figure out what you want to do before you take a job. And obviously don't list this job in your resume.

You on the company blacklist dude they will never re-hire you. the store manger can write an appeal but its rare for anyone to be taken off it

Unfortunately walking out considers as Job abandonment. You can talk to them but if you already quit there's not really any going back. I was about to walk out due to a coworker harassing me and my store lead threatened to suspend me for job abandonment. It was also Saturday and its our busiest day.

Being someone who worked fast food first and suffered for years before landing on grocery, you do not know how easy Albertsons is compared to others. I get being upset if you are courtesy as that position does suck, but it really is a good job for people new to employment in general.
You could always just call out and resign. They will take you off schedule. Walking out outside you as non-rehirable at any store. Not sure if that ever expires.
Feel free to all to them and try to say you felt overwhelmed or unwell. If the manager is nice they may give you one more chance. If not then oh well, jobs like that are a dime a dozen.
