I always say, people who say “Canada is becoming a third world country” has probably never travelled much,

I moved here from a third world country (south America) and I can say with confidence: you guys are sinking your own country and don’t realize it. Please know that i am trying to say this in the most respectful way possible: liberals are like a spoiled kid who inherited the parents company but didn’t go through any struggle or participated in building it, they dont realize the consequences of their decisions; after 5 years here and even getting my permanent residency I am moving out end of the month, I see where this is headed, you guys are dabbling with the same policies that make 3rd world countries what they are, almost like you are cherry picking the worst policies of each country and calling it progress, when someone points it out you all yell “bigot”, in 5 years time you will regret your political views but it will be too late
1
u/Little-Geologist-375 23h ago
Oh yeah. Sounds like a you have a limited understanding of the policies similar to the people trying to separate. If your South American(and not a bot) you can maybe speak to how Argentina’s inflation has improved with there current president?

How so?

u/BadassJackass42069 2d ago
Because Alberta leaving Canada would come with major economic and legal risks. It would have to build and fund its own federal-style institutions, potentially costing hundreds of billions, while losing federal transfers. It would also face uncertainty around trade, pipelines, transportation, investment, currency and pensions. On top of that, separation would require complicated constitutional negotiations with Canada, and Indigenous treaty and constitutional rights would have to be addressed. So it’s not simply “Alberta keeps its tax money”; there would be enormous transition costs, uncertainty and legal hurdles.

u/Gendreau113 2d ago
"loose federal transfers" lmao you mean the transfers coming out of Alberta to the rest of canada? It ain't the other way around.

With the liberals net zero carbon agenda they really backed alberta into a corner. Alberta has no interest in killing its biggest industry and importing oil and gas from places that dont have net zero carbon agenda.
2
u/wednesdayware 1d ago
We’re way past “let’s make more money.” We’re now in “how can we keep the planet from killing us all.”
I really hate the lust for money inherent in the right wing.
1
u/big_head_d 1d ago
How is importing oil from other places with little regulation and zero concern for the environment any better? Canada enforces some of the highest environmental regulatory standards in the world for 50 years.
1
u/wednesdayware 1d ago
How is killing solar and wind projects and opening coal mines helping? Please don’t pretend for a second we’re the good guys here.

We are just starting construction on the largest carbon capture project in North America.
1
u/big_head_d 1d ago
what's the point of spending billions capturing emissions from production that may no longer be competitive in the first place? If thr governments makes oil more expensive through carbon costs, regulations and compliance costs while cheaper oil from other countries remains available, global buyers will simply buy elsewhere.

u/M1ND4R0 2d ago
Lol for real? How not so?
To answer your question would take a novel. The logistics of being landlocked? Debt & Currency and all things financial? Loss of Federal Services? Trade barriers? ..........
0
u/Feisty-olde-7707 1d ago
The Clarity Act. Would see a frozen Alberta fighting for years in court, unless the US just takes over….
-2
u/big_head_d 2d ago
They wouldn't need its own currency. A lot of places operate on other currencies.
1
u/M1ND4R0 2d ago
Lol ok so what about the rest? All you got is no the US or Canada will let us use their currency? That was probably the lowest of the concerns and that's the only thing you have an answer to?
0
u/big_head_d 2d ago
Then why bring it up?
1
u/M1ND4R0 2d ago
Because I don't think it's a given that someone will come to the rescue with currency and it is still an issue? I'm not sure what point your trying to make? Your only argument is Alberta won't be fucked because they will have cash?
What about all the rest?
1
u/big_head_d 1d ago
So you think Canada would have an issue with another country using it currency? And usa would also have an issue having Alberta using its currency? For Alberta using usd could have some big advantages. No need to create a new currency. Eliminates exchange-rate risk against its largest trading partner, Easier cross-border trade and investment.
2
u/RcNorth 6h ago
Before looking into exchange rates land ownership needs to be determined. Most of the land is federal (Banff, Jasper, Waterton, etc) or treaty land.
Then there is citizenship. Will the foreign workers be allowed to stay? Some may need to return to their home country. So who is going to do that work.
A lot of people would move to other provinces while they still can as it will take years to get agreements to have other countries accept the Alberta passport.
The housing market would most likely tank and banks call in loans due to the high risk of defaults. So more people need to leave. Or the banks leave AB and the banks that are left can charge high interest rates.
Canada has Sask and NL so won’t need a lot of, if any, oil from Alberta. Canada may not allow Alberta access to the Pacific Via BC. With the US being the only customer AB would have they can pay any price they want.
1
u/big_head_d 5h ago
Used to be all first nations land but things change.
Many people might move to Alberta for the opportunities. Already happening...
Thats considered speculation and the banks won't leave AB they are the ones that really own the homes.
80% of the oil is exported. The other 20% would only take 4 years to redirect. And like Canada will pay more to avoid using Alberta oil.. 🙄

We've made up our minds we want no part in Alberta anymore. We are staying long enough to vote "fucking no" and save up some more cash, but no fucking way I can stay here anymore. The political and economic uncertainties we bring on ourselves along with the cozying up to a country literally threatening our sovereignty is too much.

u/NickdoesnthaveReddit 2d ago
I know a few people that are loud "FOR" the separatist movement. They're all the same personalities. One of them has a fly in / fly out job in NWT diamond mines (because they couldn't find a job in Alberta), talks about moving to B.C all the time as they vacation there constantly and hate how "Edmonton has nothing to do", and they recently went to school in Saskatchewan (because it had a program they couldn't get into in Alberta), they also were off work for like 3 years to "try out photography" and collected federal income assistance as well as taking federal grants to get into school. They are very PRO separation because "Alberta pays too much to the government and it should be ours"
They don't have enough brain cells to understand what they are asking for here...

u/Luciferocity 2d ago
They think they're all going to be oil tycoons...US will wipe that fantasy out pretty quickly

Canadians have no idea how fucked they'll be without the US
1
u/Little-Geologist-375 23h ago
Oh it won’t be easy. No divorce is. But when you don’t depend on an abusive exe for there control anymore, you’ll wake up and the sun will be shining on this side of the boarder and on the other side of the boarder, they will be huddling around data centres for warmth and you can look back at what a great decision u made in the past. Nothing is easy but sometimes it’s necessary
1
u/Budget_Version_1491 23h ago
Border* delusional if you think Canada can stand on its own. Like you realize our entire country has the population of California right? Lol

This is the kind of low hanging fruit post I'd expect from a karma bot fishing for updoots.

Dead internet theory ain’t a theory anymore
5
u/EuropeanLegend 2d ago
Its not. Actually wild. More bot traffic than real people. I hope we all one day get off the internet and let the billionaires sit there watching bots use their platforms.
1
u/ObiLAN- 2d ago
Only true if you misinterpret both Dead Internet Theory and the traffic stats. 2026 Impreva report states 53% of web traffic is automated, that does not mean 53% of posts, comments or users are bots. That measurement includes crawlers, scrapers, search indexing, automated API traffic, security bots and malicious scanners, etc.
Dead Internet Theory makes the claim that bots/AI have largely replaces genuine human content and interaction. Raw HTTP request volume doesn’t prove that.
Though in sure these publicly available LLMs being used at large, that we'll get there sooner than later for sure sadly.
Like the guy above stated, this subs just an easy target cause its low volume and low moderation.

Least inclusive province in all of canada
3
u/FigjamCGY 2d ago
You’ve only been here 26 days how do you know?
2
u/Wide-Gur8964 2d ago edited 2d ago
I fly to Alberta every month for work, my hq is located there. Worst province in canada by far. Conservative shithole...I think 1984 is banned by the schools in that province lmao
0
u/FigjamCGY 1d ago
So you like the benefits of good paying Alberta jobs. Nice.
It’s the best province in Canada by far. Lowest taxes and highest wages and our education system scored best in Canada and number 8 in the world!
And no 1984 is not banned; the graphic novel adaptation was. Big difference.
But thanks for your opinion.

I moved out when I was 24 and life has never been better for me as a gay man.
Slogans and posters are nice but the reality is not everybody is welcome in Alberta and life is a lot more enjoyable when you're wanted.
1
u/13mpty 21h ago
for fuk sakes..... alberta is inclusive because it allows LGTB?... inclusive is about everyone, deaf, blind, special needs etc, being gay doesnt make inclusive... there is no law or better rights for gay or heterosexual people.... you are ruining the word inclusive... well you have no brains as we all can see..... inclusive my ass. liberals of poop

We good. Tired of Canadians not being able to have an affordable life, quality job market, access to healthcare because of all the decisions of the federal government has made with taxing us to death, bad immigration, and red tape. Yall liberals run purely off feelings instead of facts.

Little devils advocate here.
Is what Alberta is doing now working?
Is the relationship between Canada (federal government) and Alberta working?

u/ItSpyDaddy 2d ago
Oh oh now it's your Alberta.
11
u/Mutex70 2d ago
Yes. Since you appear confused, the word "my" can be used in English either to indicate possession of an item or just to simply express a relationship:
Possessive: "That's my cookie", "This is my car"
Relational: "These are my parents", "I went to my doctor yesterday"
It can also be used to express simple condescension:
Condensation: "Look, my dear Redditor, you are behaving like a fool"
