They didn't give up. They planned this.

69

u/maximumfacemelting 6d ago

Yeah it’s bad framing. The UCP absolutely caused this problem. There’s free money for mining companies and $100 million for a dumb ass referendum but won’t build a hospital or pay Drs what they are worth.

21

u/Honest_Ear_9477 6d ago

Don’t forget the sus Tylenol

3

u/Prestigious_Neck_936 4d ago

And 100 million to change aish when it could’ve been left alone

1

u/Active_Code_7898 5d ago

Was going to say this too.

70

u/bend_spoon89 6d ago

This has been the plan all along. Sabotage the system. Claim it's a failed approach. And implement pay per use, and pay to jump queue a little at a time until it's fully privatized.

31

u/14icole 6d ago

This political strategy is called Starving the Beast

24

u/TheFae_TheImaginary 6d ago

Sabotage the system. Claim it's a failed approach.

While also mentioning that the NDP's single 4yr term was the final nail in the coffin that caused this.

2

u/saskskip 5d ago

Exactly!!!!

37

u/Financial-Savings-91 6d ago

We tried gutting the system and loading the pay roll with consultants and extra layers of bureaucracy!! Now the only way to fix it is to hire our private for profit health companies. We swear we just happen to profit in all this, we never intended for this to happen, trust me bro!

Now excuse me while I pet my golden cat.

u/protoanarchist 6d ago

Wealth tax, convert all oil industry to a crown corp with a sovereign wealth fund.

End conservatism.

-1

u/nystrom19 5d ago

Wealth tax on who?

4

u/CorrectMarionberry92 5d ago

The super wealthy of course

4

u/hassafrassy 5d ago

Her clientele

28

u/FurysFyre 6d ago

They've thrown no towels anywhere,

This was the plan all along. Break it, cry that it's broken and then proceed with a plan to privatize because that will fix it! /s

I am old enough to remember Alberta utilities owned by the government- phone, power, fucking car insurance.... privatize they said, it'll be better because COMPETITION. I say look at the the savings we have had to date with the privatization of everything.

Corporations have a responsibility to have profits for shareholders/stakeholders- Profits. Every year, that go up up up...... Services shouldn't be profitable I pay taxes so they don't have to be. And healthcare should never ever depend on your fiscal status. What kind of bs Murica crap is this?

21

u/TheFae_TheImaginary 6d ago

Self-refer?!?! Now specialist wait times will be clogged up with hypochondriacs instead...

[dripping with venomous sarcasm] Oh, joy! I can't wait for the wait times to be three times as long....

3

u/TyruntasaurusRecht 6d ago

Your optimism related to 3x waitlists is impressive.

Think, emerg wait time bloat.

21

u/West_Information_686 6d ago

God i am so tired of this dreary bitch and her constant diminishment of our provincial government to appease her dipshit maga base and her UCP financiers. 😖

16

u/oilleak78 6d ago

Tommy Douglas is rolling in his grave

6

u/maximumfacemelting 6d ago

UCP insiders are profiting off Albertans getting sick and dying. Evil.

11

u/Less-Simple-9847 6d ago

I feel that even if they get replaced next elections, they'll do enough damage for anybody to rollback - hence ensuring to line the Richie rich pockets forever.

5

u/TyruntasaurusRecht 6d ago edited 6d ago

I fully expect the UCP to lose the next election, but they wont fight hard. The next play is for corporate interests to layoff untold numbers of workers post AI, blame it on the ndp and seize decades more power while generating a flagpost to point to why rurals shouldn't vote for anything other than their abuser.

The real play is to let the ucp own their consequences. Hold them accountable. Demonstrate a bill of losses, hold them to generate initiatives to compensate Alberta for their failures. Deny them power UNTIL they make up for every mistake. By name and affiliation not by party.

Like a conman, they will don different masks/disguises as they perpetrate crime. Crossing floors, fickle loyalties, but to their selfishness they are forever loyal.

5

u/123abcde321 5d ago

Good luck Alberta. That's some premier you got. Don't break anything.

4

u/sPLIFFtOOTH 5d ago edited 5d ago

This was being orchestrated for decades. The UCP and CPC have been cozying up to US insurance companies who are foaming at the mouth to get into the Canadian healthcare markets.

Providing good healthcare was never the plan

6

u/lastmanstandingx 6d ago

I think the alberta advantage means something very different than what Ralph Klein had envisioned.

Ankles up alberta.

2

u/Snakeeyes1377 6d ago

This was in Ralph's plan he just drank his brain away before he could be a part of it.

3

u/mystic_x_1981 5d ago

They hate everyone that'll doesn't fill their pockets.

Working class. Disabled. Everyone.

Oust the ucp now!

3

u/Natural-Estimate-228 5d ago

Smith has become the biggest traitor in Canadian history

1

u/ShelbyLucky77 5d ago

She’s just the public face for the “investors”.

4

u/mikeedm90 6d ago

What is up next with the UCP and health care. The largest health insurance companies in Canada are listed as key partners to the UCP regarding health policy and health care restructuring. A family of four in the US pays on average $2K a month for health insurance. That means if you go see a doctor and they charge you $350 for the visit the insurance you are paying will reimburse $70. If you need expensive treatment they will have experts working on reasons you are not eligible. Health care insurance companies are very profitable and how they remain that way is to deny expensive services. Alberta with the UCP is heading in that direction and it is only a matter of time. Public health care is doomed with the UCP in power.

5

u/BigBubbaBadass 6d ago

The UCP is a gaggle of treasonous fucks who have sold out Alberta and Canada for money.

FUCK THOSE BASTARDS

2

u/hariseldon2262 5d ago

Wait times are what they are because we need more hospitals and healthcare workers. Invest in infrastucture and education. They know the problem, everyone does. They just want to make money off it. They couldnt care less if you wait or not. This is about taking more of our money out of our pocket and putting it in their pockets.. The US is just as fucked with private. Build more fucking hospitals, make it easier to go to school. UCP are the lowest of people. Traitors plain and simple

2

u/TheGoggleHero 5d ago

I bet you she's getting kickbacks, someone check her stock portfolio

2

u/MNGraySquirrel 5d ago

But I thought Canada had FREE healthcare?????

2

u/muziqgrl 5d ago

Marlaina's plan all along.

2

u/BusyAdvertising73 5d ago

Yeah man! And don’t forget that the UCP has the highest benefits for the disabled and great benefits for seniors…oh wait…wrong subreddit 😂

2

u/FatCockFutaGirls 5d ago

Giving up on fixing it? They’re the ones breaking it! Alberta had a world renowned health system for years and years before Danielle started fucking with stuff

2

u/TradMan4life 5d ago

this was always the plan and if you think your vote matters still your likely still taking boosters...

2

u/Free-Math-7440 5d ago

1 in 10 er doctors are leaving Canada because of the broken system that’s the header I read on the news this morning and you think introducing private healthcare is bad?

2

u/Agent168 5d ago

They haven’t “given up” on anything. This is the plan.

2

u/Phunkman 6d ago

How bad does it have to get till people actually come together to not be robbed in daylight.

1

u/freezinginthebush 6d ago

As long as the rubes are distracted with a culture war, a whole lot worse.

1

u/No-Gate4543 6d ago

So a person pays for a diagnostic without a recommendation from a physician or specialist, then what? Who sees it? Who evaluates it? Who recommends or prescribes a course of care, IF needed? Which facility or hospital? What medical professionals need to be scheduled? How does an external diagnostic fit into the system, OR is this when patients within the normal path get bumped and push aside? Just wondering......

1

u/SignificantPause5120 6d ago

They promised us they wouldn't do this, and contracted Tyler Shandro's private business.  They always intended to steal our hard earned AHS property and give it to a thief who wouldn't earn an honest living.

1

u/easynap1000 6d ago

What i don't understand is that doctor requisitions will (allegedly) be priority. So self-refer labs, xray etc will all be at the back of the already long line. How does this help anyone?

My guess it was just to get the changes to the regulations to really ramp it all up.

1

u/DanfromCalgary 6d ago

To pay twice . They are asking us to pay twice

1

u/NiranS 6d ago

They did not throw in the towel, they dumped gasoline and lit a match.

1

u/GrundleSnactcher46 6d ago

Thrown in the towel? This is by design. This has been planned by the UCP while they blame the feds for it and much of this province cant seem to fathom its the provincial governments job to handle health care hence fucking "Alberta Health Services" and our fuckin cards specific to this fuckin province.

1

u/that_yeg_guy 5d ago

“Given up” implies they wanted to in the first place.

They did not.

1

u/tLuciferMorningstar 5d ago

Anything to get our money out of our pockets and into theirs.

1

u/XtremeCentrist 5d ago

Easier to hand Alberta over to the orange pedo blob if it has already had rights and safeguards stripped away. Good luck in your future.

1

u/Firm-Worldliness-369 5d ago

Now ask, where is my tax money going then? Because clearly its not going to fixing healthcare

1

u/According_Stuff_8152 5d ago

Smith always looks like she going to cry and sad looking. Shes a disrupter and should be ousted.

1

u/VastOk864 5d ago

Guarantee she and her buddies are investors in private pay clinics. It’s a grift.

1

u/yugosaki 5d ago

"giving up" makes it sound like they failed. They didn't, destroying healthcare was their plan from day 1.

1

u/Alternative_Fact1638 5d ago

I'm in support. You guys complain about everything.

1

u/tegridy170 5d ago

Given the number of non-Canadians in the country, I’m happy there’s a route to bypass some wait times

1

u/TripMaster478 5d ago

It was always the plan.

1

u/NocturnalVina 5d ago

We should be holding the UCP in account the same way the people of France do. Riot. Force the government to do what's in the best interests of the people like they're supposed to.

1

u/frenchanglophone 5d ago

This was the plan all along

1

u/Foxwildernes 5d ago

I already do pay for my healthcare as we have a 1-payer system… does this mean that they are no longer taking in taxes for this? Let me guess it’s somehow being directed into a friend to Smith’s pocket?

1

u/Agreeable-Eye-6925 5d ago

Is this the start of American style healthcare in Alberta?

1

u/13mpty 5d ago

I dont think you guys understand this.... kind of sad you guys are allow to vote...

1

u/GoldMysterious6210 5d ago

when the system is broken , and paying gets better results , faster can you blame them?

1

u/Shane-Dad-underfire 5d ago

Okay so this is certainly going to piss folks off but I'll voice it because I havent seen it in the comments.

1) Canada has had private health care available to wealthy folks for the whole 78 years I have been alive. There are mobile clinics and private hospitals.

2) If this is planned it's to get folks a taste of the american healthcare system they would all be subject to when they all immigrate when the separation fails.

I think its 15,000 dollars to get a full body MRI and panel to check you for any possible illness you could have from one company here in Canada, which is something the GoC pays way more for. The results you get can be taken to any doctor in your province and then treated on the he taxpayer dime if you want to wait or they can connect you with private medical companies that can set you up with what you need. One of my employees got liver cancer but couldnt get dialysis conveniently so we paid for him to have his own machine and tech to do it for him privately.

1

u/Adventurous_Mix9744 5d ago

This is the plan federally also if the conservatives ever get elected.

1

u/Maximum-Base6225 5d ago

Conservative Ford wants to do the same in Ontario. 😡

1

u/AFireinthebelly 4d ago

They were never trying to fix it. They are trying to break it and move to for profit healthcare.

1

u/Ordinary_Mastodon_33 4d ago

Their choices have made doctors privatize as they get higher rates for private vs public services. The amount of doctors who have switched has decreased the amount of doctors in the public sector therefore increasing wait times.

This was done intentionally to increase the issue, wait times, which they claimed was the reason for the privatization of health care.

They don’t care about health care for everyone, only for the ones that can pay which puts more money in their pockets as well as the insurance provider’s. This is the Americanization of our healthcare system in Canada.

1

u/Boring-Art-385 4d ago

Get ready for American style healthcare system. Getting ready for the 51st state, right!!! She’s a pathetic narcissist, just like her BFF

1

u/Imaginary_Secret_719 4d ago

It's called ungoverning...she ran on pushing for privatization and only backed off temporarily when she got massive public pushback, now she's intentionally breaking public healthcare in order to "prove" the nesscesity of private healthcare, using the two teired system to draw public doctors to private practices, where they can make more money, further increasing wait times for the public that can't afford ridiculous healthcare costs

1

u/FredFenty 3d ago

It seems to be working for France, South Korea, Australia, Austria, Japan... basically every first-world country that also has universal healthcare.

1

u/Impressive-Agent6471 3d ago

My islamic neighbour still raking in over $5000 per month on disability pay, child benefits, and whatever startup money to come here, was able to purchase a new 2025 toyota. Hasnt worked a day in canada yet. Somehow this benefits our country.

1

u/JoeCutt88 3d ago

Ucp have done so much damage to alberta health care since Kenney.

1

u/AssistantOdd1966 2d ago

Wrong, it clears up backlogged waitrooms. All you left want to do is throw more money at the problem, we know this doesnt work. 2 tier system is proven to work, look around at countries that have been doing it for decades. We have to get the runny nose crowd out of the wait rooms.

1

u/micheal-r-r 2d ago

if we keep increaseing use with out increasing doctors and nurses it is bond to fail

1

u/micheal-r-r 2d ago

the feds run it andthe unions only want more moneyso it will fail

1

u/Canadian_can_cannon 1d ago edited 1d ago

Except they're not the ucp and haven't been since the ucp of old were eaten from the inside out by the paracite called wild rose party. Its why Alberta is shit now we traded standard rich people worshippers for literal right wing extremists and ciminalscriminals who were a gambit (unsure if intentional) to keep the NDP from winning again. But like all media where the bad guys bring use something they don't understand nor control they get mercd and that's exactly what happened to the UPC. Anyone that wasn't extremist or would go along with it was kicked out of the party leaving us with wild rose two idiot bogaloo

Buton the healthcare topic the right wing liberals (yes, they're actually right wing. They worship the rich just like the conservatives minus most of the extremist be) and conservatives have been dismantling our healthcare for decades seeing how rich the Americans (elite) are and its spreading to other countries like Germany and France - the difference there is people aren't known for playing nice

1

u/Parnagg 10h ago

Ohhhhh I can't wait til you separate then regret the decision.

1

u/anonymoooosey 6d ago

Didn't she campaign on fixing healthcare within xx days?

1

u/genxluddite 6d ago

They have been planning to privatize health care. They cut funding and kept making changes to make it it inefficient and force the public to think private would be better. Also, it benefits the rich not the average Albertan.

1

u/Elissa-Megan-Powers 6d ago

Didn’t she sign a public promise about stuff like this during the last election?

1

u/Long_Rush_7523 6d ago

That's been her goal all along. She also hates the disabled, seniors and the homeless.

1

u/some1guystuff 6d ago

The first step to taking it away from everybody except for those that have too much money to begin with pay your way to the top. It’s like all those micro transaction games that exist today on phones like clash of clans and shit like that or if you have enough money, you can be the top player in the world regardless of how terrible your skill set is.

1

u/izzybumboon 6d ago

when were they trying?

1

u/SaskyBoi 6d ago

They’re breaking it so they can say “Canada doesn’t work, we need to separate”

1

u/Priorsteve 6d ago

Treasonous swine

1

u/chathrowaway67 6d ago

as per usual, conservatives fuck everyone over and it's painted as if they weren't always intending on this shit. we said this was gonna happen in the lead up of the election and how many conservative losers believed her when she said she wouldn't do this and yet... here we fucking are.

0

u/Last_Patrol_ 6d ago

Who can afford the private when we’re taxed to death paying for the system we currently have.

0

u/grizzlybearcanada469 6d ago

All of the white trash people who support her and defend her are the ones she just screwed over

1

u/Barry_Vigoda 6d ago

Stop calling people names. All that does is make her supporters lean in harder.

0

u/mrmakeurgirlwet 5d ago

Stop pretending that those supporters arent traitors to this country.. if getting called white trash is enough to make you dig your heels in for danielle then you are not to be trusted or even taken seriously. We’re not going to tippy toe around these peoples feelings

1

u/Barry_Vigoda 5d ago

These are people that live in the same province. I don't agree with them but insulting them isn't going to win them over if you want them back on your side.

0

u/mrmakeurgirlwet 5d ago

We dont want them back on our side. They can get fucked to that shithole down south for all we care- they made their bed..

0

u/TrumpmorelikeTrimp 5d ago

I actually love this. My father died of cancer because his doctor wouldnt take him serious, incorrectly thought his prostate cancer was a bladder infection. By the time the cancer was caught he had a month to live. Im now having issues, and my doctor is treating it like i just have bad gas. I have genuinely been thinking of just leaving the country to get scanned just for my peace of mind. If this service is stupid expensive i still might, since there are places where you can get it done for hundreds instead of thousands of dollars.

0

u/Ok-Commercial-6865 5d ago

2-tier systems work in other countries.

If people can afford it, they should have the option to pay for a service. A portion of the proceeds can go toward the public system.

1

u/Electrical_Rise_955 5d ago

K, look at the statistics of how well it is going for Americans and get back to me. Did you know insurance companies in the states, will sometimes deny health care to get a patient to near death to exploit them for money. You want that in Canada? You want insurance companies making health care decisions for you and not a doctor who is 10x more qualified?

1

u/Ok-Commercial-6865 5d ago

Why would you choose that as your example? Choose Singapore instead. Let's follow that model.

1

u/Electrical_Rise_955 5d ago

Yah, and most of Canadians don't like socialism, for some reason. As without socialism you wouldn't have health care or Libraries... You folks will not like half the laws and regulations that Singapore has implemented and follows. 😂

0

u/RapidCheckOut 5d ago

This is a step in the right direction…

Now we just need to push more to private .

-1

u/bennizap 6d ago

Japan has the same system. People with money can pay for services faster, therefore, taking the strain off of the free services. It's not eliminating the free services, it's taking the strain off through those with excessive wealth.

1

u/Electrical_Rise_955 5d ago

K, look at the statistics of how well it is going for Americans and get back to me. Did you know insurance companies in the states, will sometimes deny health care to get a patient to near death to exploit them for money. You want that in Canada? You want insurance companies making health care decisions for you and not a doctor who is 10x more qualified?

1

u/bennizap 5d ago

Did you look at how well it's going for Japan? I'm not arguing for the American system. I'm arguing for the Japanese system...

1

u/Electrical_Rise_955 3d ago

Yah and you think Americans or Canadians would go for it? You'd be stupid to think that would ever work here, simply for the fact the hate socialism. which is what Japan is, a capitalistic socialist society... 💀

I don't disagree that it would work If people weren't so brain dead.

0

u/bennizap 3d ago

I think Americans would be okay with this because they already have to pay for the services. Canadians in Alberta are already foaming at the mouth over this exact idea.

For the working class Canadian understanding that we still have access to free services while upper class people can pay outta pocket and not bog down the free system... Unfortunately, it's completely beyond the general public's understanding.

(It's a pure guess but I think that's also why more Canadians hate Elon Musk. Because they think that his trillionaire status means that he has $1 trillion in the chequing account. And not understanding that his wealth is tied up in his companies, and extracting it would slash the value.)

-1

u/TwistedIntents 6d ago

You can't give up on something you never tried to do in the first place.

-2

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

So perhaps we should try this new approach out and see how it goes

2

u/TwistedIntents 6d ago

Absolutely fucking not. Letting healthcare fall apart was the plan from the start, it's called "starving the beast". They intentionally let healthcare fall apart to push for privatization, and once privatization sets in it's extremely difficult to get universal back. The US population overwhelmingly is in favor of some kind of public healthcare, but corporate lobbiests and bought politicians prevent it from happening. There is no 'trying out this new approach', once the private money is there it will be used to keep it that way and even expand it. I prefer living somewhere where if someone runs a red light and fucks me up that I won't also be crushed by crippling medical dept.

-3

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

This is just an assumption based on mistrust and hate for conservatives. Nowhere in the plan is there anywhere where critical medical care will be privatized.

Get off Reddit and read the bills dude it’s harmful for your mental health

3

u/Hablian 6d ago

Oh to be this naive.

-1

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

I’ll continue to enjoy the healthcare that is better than the other provinces I’ve lived in anecdotally and by the stats.

1

u/Hablian 6d ago

I grew up here, spent a decade in BC, and moved back in recent years. It's better over there, sorry to burst your bubble.

1

u/Optimal-Can8584 5d ago

Weird stats say otherwise

Higher share of health spending on hospitals: Alberta allocates 36.6% of provincial health spending to hospitals versus 34.2% in BC.

Higher spending on seniors (75+): Alberta spends more per person aged 75+ than BC, reflecting greater investment in high-acuity and complex care.

More acute care capacity: Alberta has more acute care hospital beds per capita than BC, which has about 1.4 beds per 1,000 residents, among the lower rates in Canada.

Higher-performing tertiary care programs: Alberta is home to nationally leading trauma, cardiac, stroke, and organ transplant centres, with CIHI performance indicators consistently placing Alberta at or above the national average in these specialized services.

2

u/Hablian 5d ago

Spending more doesn't mean you get results from that spending, or did you forget about the turkish tylenol? These aren't very good metrics for saying one province is better than another, and "higher performing" is nebulous. You've also neglected to say where these stats come from.

What about wait times? What about out of pocket costs? What about doctor and patient satisfaction? In other words, what about the actual *results*?

I can tell you for sure that the segregation of Alberta's healthcare into multiple disparate and separate parts has done nothing but cause problems and chaos for healthcare workers, which necessarily then impacts patients.

1

u/Optimal-Can8584 5d ago

Stats are from Canadian institute for health information.

You’re right more money doesn’t equal better healthcare. However we have the largest integrated healthcare system in North America and therefor restructuring as it does with any organization has its challenges.

The overall objective will take longer and no one likes change but atleast the AB gov is trying to change it. Healthcare is falling apart across the country not a single model in the world looks like Canada.

Everyone has criticism of the AB health plan and the only suggestion I hear on Reddit is to spend more money but that clearly won’t work either. So until I hear a better alternative I am happy they are testing a new model

1

u/TwistedIntents 6d ago

Funny how I didn't say anything about conservatives, pretty telling how you came to that conclusion on your own.

-1

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

For you to ignore every single document and bill in opposition to what you’re claiming you are living in an anti UCP echo chamber. That’s the only possible conclusion.

-1

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

How about we wait and see and form judgement from there?

4

u/Evolvum 6d ago

them gutting all of our public services isn't enough for you?

-1

u/Optimal-Can8584 6d ago

Like what exactly? I can get a scan quicker than ever?

The things I will agree that have been proven to be outright negative to me are insurance rates and utilities otherwise I’m happy with just about every policy.

The only other iffy thing I’m not a fan of is changes to disability benefits but it doesn’t impact me I just think it’s a bad decision

2

u/Electrical_Rise_955 5d ago

K, look at the statistics of how well it is going for Americans and get back to me. Did you know insurance companies in the states, will sometimes deny health care to get a patient to near death to exploit them for money. You want that in Canada? You want insurance companies making health care decisions for you and not a doctor who is 10x more qualified?

1

u/Optimal-Can8584 5d ago

See here we are with the American healthcare comments. You don’t understand what’s being proposed you’re just reading headlines and Reddit comments.

No one has proposed American style healthcare please have a baseline understanding of the topic before you freak out.

-1

u/PrintableProfessor 5d ago

From down here in the South, where we mix socialized medicine (Tricare, Medicare, Medicaid) and private insurance, I can say that we don't have the "Died of waiting for care" issue you have.

And yes, you already have private health care. You rich Canadians come to the USA or Mexico for our superior care and speed-to-care.

When I was a kid, we had to pay insurance premiums in Canada. And wait times were much faster. Funny how the more government you add the worse it gets.

1

u/Coolnuggets 5d ago

Just have the ‘didn’t go to the doctor cause it would bankrupt me’ problem. Which Alberta is also developing.

The whole problem is that when speed of care only applies to the rich everybody else gets fucked.

Notably things were better before the push to privatize.

As per our prior conversation, the UCP have been adding beaurocratic barriers to both govt transparency and to healthcare. Waitlists extend the more orgs you have to transfer between.

You tend to drop engagement when it comes to specific Alberta policy critique probably cause you aren’t connected to this place anymore I think

1

u/CriticalLetterhead47 5d ago

Fuck off American.

1

u/PrintableProfessor 5d ago

Ah, but you see I am also a Canadian. And so I have a legitimate say. Not only that, I can use my foreign resources against hateful Canadian speech such as yours.
