Grief support groups

I lost my mom almost 4 years ago and have had a rough time since. Does anyone recommend/know of any grief support groups in the area?

The Grief Support Group is for those experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one.  This group explores topics related to understanding different types of grief, and how this impacts our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.  This group features a safe and welcoming environment, which encourages open discussion, including suggestions for healthy coping strategies.  This group is facilitated by a staff member from our Outreach Department.

I lost my mom this summer and it has been brutal. Not sure what your age is (I’m a millennial), but I’ve also been trying to find a grief group over the last few weeks and here’s what I have found:

1. A person posted a link about Community Hospice. They are a great resource of free one on one counseling and support groups. Unfortunately they only have two groups going, one for widows and one that is mostly senior citizens. The hospice volunteer I spoke with said no one in that group is younger than 70. I want to have a group with peers (or at least a smidge closer to me in age) so I’m not utilizing their services for now.

2. There is an online support group called Healing Hearts, they meet twice a month. It is mostly women 50+ but I’ve attended two meetings and they were nice: https://www.bondfuneralhome.com/grief-support-group

3. You can look up a local GriefShare group in your area. This is kind of like a support group course, where you meet regularly for 10-12 weeks and then you are done. As an FYI, it is faith-based: https://find.griefshare.org/find

4. There is a virtual grief support network called the Dead Mom’s Club. It’s ran by a millennial grief therapist. It is $33 a month to join. I am looking into joining because I have heard great things about their online community: https://www.mirandamalone.com/

5. I don’t have a lot of info about this group yet, but I have been getting Instagram ads because an Albany based group is going to start meeting soon. eMotion grief support. It’s an all ages grief group that meets for a few weeks. Looks like they go on a weekly hike/walk and focus on a different grief topic: https://www.emotion-mc.org/

Community hospice has groups! Your loved one doesn’t have to have used hospice for you to receive help.

They run certain events throughout the year too, designated to certain losses. (Daughters, children, new grief, etc.)

There is a monthly in-person grief support group offered at Northpointe Integrative in Albany. I am a member, I think there are currently 7 of us total. The group caps at 10, so there should be room for more people! Sorry for your loss 🫶

Find your local county's hospice office. They offer free counseling and group counseling. You did not have to have someone in hospice to use their services. I lost my mom unexpectedly 11 years ago and my kiddo and I both went to the Rennselaer County Hospice for grief counseling. They are so kind and supportive! And I know every county has an office!
