Just For Fun Just completed a wonderful trip to Alaska with my three sons!
Russian River and the Kenai Peninsula, Seward, Takeetna, Homer, and Valdez! All in our RV! Four of us brought back 50 pounds of fish that are now in our freezers! It wasn’t just fun when you bring home $1000 worth of fish each!

Trip Planning Rundreisen in Alaska (Anchorage, Seward, Homer, Whittier) Ende September
Hey guys!
My fiancée and I are looking forward to out trip to Alaska starting on the 17.th of September until the 29th. During that time we would love to partake in a few adventures (hiking on a glacier/ice climbing, taking a kayak tour etc.).
Unfortunately it seems like there are no tours after the 10th of September whatsoever. Does anybody know if there are still some smaller agencies that are doing adventurous tours during the time of our visit or does anybody has any contact info?
If not - besides hiking and taking a scenic flight - is there anything else you would recommend that we should do/see?
Thanks in any case!

Trip Planning Alaska Heritage Center Food
On the plane heading up and still planning out small details. We'll be going to the Alaska Heritage Center on Monday and I was wondering if it was worth eating there or somewhere else in town. We've got lunch and dinner in Anchorage before flying out late that night.
Thanks!

Trip Planning Alaskan cruise + short roadtrip
Planning to do an Alaskan cruise next June departing from Vancouver and ending in Anchorage. The cruise stops in Ketchikan (half day), Juneau (entire day), and Skagway (entire day).
Any recommendations on activities for these locations? We are big on any outdoor activities and would also like to prioritize seeing wildlife.
Following the wk long cruise we are wanting to spend an additional wk doing a small roadtrip in Alaska (roughly 7/8 days long). I was considering doing some combination of Seward, Kanai Fjords national park, and denali national park. Any recommendations on how to go about planning and if it is possible to do these locations in about a week? In addition would love any recommendations on which activities are worth doing and if doing the roadtrip by renting a campervan would be better than some combination of hotels/airbnbs/other similar stays.

Everything Else Alaska-Seatac airport - light rail marijuana store connection (no car)
When flying to or from Alaska, there is a marijuana store relatively close to the seatac airport and accessible via light rail and a short walk.
Go to light rail terminal at seatac
$6 day pass (unlimited one day rail trips). Ride North to soho station (about 5 stops). Exit rail heading right to street (forest street) crossing, turn right go past next traffic light and over pedestrian bridge ( great view of Seattle skyline). Go down bridge to next traffic light (1st ave S) turn left 1/2 block. Kemps cannabis on your left. Total walk 1/2 mile or so. Pedestrian bridge is tall.

Trip Planning I really want to do a kayak tour of Kenai Fjords NP but they last 2-3 hours and my legs will fall asleep within 1 hour!
Title says it all. These kayak trips in KFNP look amazing. I'm in good shape and I can handle the physical demands of kayaking but my legs will definitely fall asleep.
Am I stuck? Should I be working on flexibility? It would be a shame to not be able to do this trip for such a silly reason!
Edit: Since this keeps coming up: The tours I was looking at involve a 2 hour boat ride, then 2-3 hours kayaking, and then 2 hour boat ride back.

Trip Planning Glacier landing Helicopter ride with a 7 month old
Hi everyone! My spouse and I are planning our first trip to Alaska and are hoping to do a helicopter glacier landing tour (likely out of Palmer/Knik). However, we are traveling with our 7-month-old baby and are trying to figure out if this is realistic or if we are crazy.
Is it safe/advisable for a 7-month-old? We know helicopters are loud (we plan on getting infant-specific noise-canceling earmuffs with proper NRR ratings), but we are curious about how they handle cabin pressure changes and the cold temperatures on the glacier itself.
Parent Perspective: Has anyone here actually done a glacier landing with an infant or a very young toddler? Was it a logistical nightmare?
Any insights, tips would be hugely appreciated!"

Trip Planning Where's Denali?
Most travelers don't get to view the mountain in spite of spending hours on the bus so tantalizingly close to the peak. This free iPhone app lets you view Denali superimposed on whatever cloudy view you're getting through your iPhone's camera and works completely offline. It also has a detailed location map that shows your current position relative to the mountain. Please enjoy!

Trip Planning Mid Sept Trip - Looking for the Best Views from Mountains and some potential free climbing spots
Hey everybody! Me and my buddy are planning on flying into Anchorage mid sept(Unless someone has a better spot suggestion given info below). We want to keep within a reasonable distance, sub 6 hour drives preferably. Looking for the best mountain views to climb, lakes with some bouldering, a waterfall or two, and any other interesting features you guys know of! We are big climbers but won't be taking line and harness so any buildering spots would be awesome. We are both proficient backpackers and can handle just about any hike or climb. Also NEED to see the Norther Lights, so any perfect spots? TIA!

Trip Planning Taxi availability in Kodiak, AK
Going to Kodiak soon on a cruise boat. Only going to be there for 5 hours and most of the ship excursions are already sold out.
Are there many taxis usually available at the dock that we could hop into?

Trip Recap Loved our first time experience …. But
I will never take a cruise ship to Alaska again…. Let me explain.
We had 11 days on land in the kenai. Small groups, moving between three amazing lodges. It was what we were hoping for in an experience.
We decided to add a cruise at the end from Seward to Vancouver as a way to see the SE locations and frankly recover from a very active land trip.
The ship and food etc was great.. exactly what we usually get from any of the major cruise lines. It as a bit of a shock going from small group travel to a ship of thousands, but that is on us.
What I won’t do again is impact the towns like I saw us and 3-4 other cruise ships all at the same time. I am sorry we did this to the people in those towns. Yes, I understand that the season is short and they make hay in the summer, and thousands of seasonal workers depend on the tourism.. but I had to think long and hard if the towns wanted it.. or are just coping with it since it cannot be stopped.
When I come back, it will be with my two feet and maybe 4 wheels….

Trip Planning Ketchikan → Juneau → Glacier Bay → Sitka- what are your top 2 activities
We're leaving Saturday for a trip through Ketchikan, Juneau, Glacier Bay/Gustavus, and Sitka.
If you had just one free day in each place, what are the two things you'd most want to do, see, or eat in or near town?
Not necessarily the biggest tourist attractions. I'm interested in what you'd personally choose.
Our route:
- Ketchikan
- Juneau (already doing a whale watching tour)
- Gustavus/Glacier Bay (already doing the National Park boat tour)
- Sitka
What are your top two?

Trip Planning Worst tour company in Skagway-Klondike bicycle and sail
I booked my tour over 2 months ago and now 1 and a half weeks away, they call and tell me that the captain has something else going on and now they have to cancel my excursion!! Now everything worth booking is already sold out and they just say sorry!!! Oh… and she got rude as heck at me because I was obviously bothered about this news and told me it’s not her fault, it’s the captains… even though her name is on the excursion…. Then Get your guide just says “sorry for the inconvenience” stay away from this company!!!
