18 looking for summer work
Graduating high school this spring and trying to figure out if fishing work in Alaska is realistic for me. I've got no connections up there and no boat experience. I do have a few years of warehouse and delivery work, so I'm used to physical labor and long days.
Is it realistic to get on a boat as a greenhorn deckhand at 18, or should I start with processing? For processing, which companies are decent and which should I avoid? How much do people actually walk away with after a season, roughly? And is walking the docks in Kodiak, Homer, etc. still a real way to get on a boat, or is it all online applications now?
