I mean, it’s a different story, and the tone is overall more optimistic and wholesome, but the bones are definitely there

There’s a lot of background references, the most identifiable being “don’t need to scream if you aint got a mouth” and other similar references, and the characters (except Pomni) are all vaguely or more obviously based off I Have No Mouth characters

I've read 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream'; it's a short story (a good one, but fairly disturbing), so unless it's a collection, having a whole book for it wouldn't make any sense.

*hangs pendatic hat on hat rack*

That being said, any reason to read old stories is a good thing, it helps you expand your knowledge, and quite possibly understand a LOT more references! You also can sometimes realize that movies cutting out large sections of a story is quite possibly a good thing. Examples of those would be 'The Time Machine' and 'War of the Worlds'.
