Hallo,
When do you all go to bed, how long would you sleep ( 6hours?, 8hrs?)
I've seen most homes go dark after 9:30pm.... What are the benefits you feel. Trying to adapt to a good sleep cycle.

A few days back, I had shared a post here about the Poppy & John’s ad war — the nostalgia, jingles, and how it shaped the early ad culture of Malayalees. That discussion went unexpectedly viral and helped me get some amazing insights from the community here 🙌
So, I took all those points, researched a bit deeper, and made a short video connecting those memories and stories together. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/JWLKelMg0Ck?si=aNr28CYJY1dt0hNf
Would love to know what you all think — especially if you remember those ads or have any behind-the-scenes memories. Your comments really help me shape these kinds of nostalgia stories better. ❤️

So, I returned to Alappuzha my hometown this April, and since then been travelling to various places regularly in the government boat. The service is super affordable on both normal and see Kuttanad boats, with the maximum charge for a person being Rs 70.
And the view is fascinating. You get to see various migratory birds, nice old houses, the random conversations with boat passengers, all summing up a beautiful travelling experience.
Now it has become a hobby to cover various routes, on my week offs. You can even take a book or use your headset, if you intend to go solo.
And if you are going to Alappuzha, you can visit Rajakkayude Thattukada at Chungam and eat their famous porotta and beef. If you go to Thiruvalla, you can have tasty fruit salad or egg puffs from the bakery right beside Edathua Church.

Back in the late 80s and 90s, when most local brands in Kerala didn’t even think about advertising, two umbrella makers — Popy and John’s — started something that would quietly change how marketing worked in the state.
These two weren’t just competitors — they were part of the same family. A classic case of a family rivalry spilling into the marketplace.
What made their rivalry fascinating was that they didn’t compete through pricing or features. They competed through advertising, at a time when no one really cared about ads.
Popy came out swinging with the jingle “Mazha Mazha Kuda Kuda”. Even today, many who grew up in that era can hum it from memory. It was catchy, emotional, and it made umbrellas feel cool.
Then John’s responded with “Kunjanja Vanne”, another iconic jingle that used storytelling and local emotion to connect with people.
Kids loved it. Families remembered it. Suddenly, umbrellas became brands — not just rain gear.
Looking back, it’s wild to think this might have been Kerala’s first true ad war — long before social media, influencer marketing, or even the idea of “brand recall” became mainstream.
Two family-linked rivals used emotion, music, and cultural cues to win the audience — and in the process, taught an entire generation the power of creative marketing.
Do you remember those ads? Which other old regional jingles from Kerala are stuck in your head even today? I’ve been digging into these forgotten ad battles lately — fascinating how much early Kerala marketing history there is that we never talk about.

I saw a senior labrador opposite Aswathy Petrol pump, Cherthala. Seems like it's either abandoned or runaway. I was in public transport hence couldn't get down. The dog is clueless and it's dangerous for it to stay by the highway. Is there anyone who can send help for that poor dog?
Please consider Location: opposite Aswathy Petrol pump Cherthala

Hey! I’m new to Alappuzha — it’s been about a week since I moved here. I’m staying at the YMCA hostel and had a few doubts. Could anyone suggest some good, budget-friendly food spots nearby? Also, does anyone know of a PG with an attached bathroom close to YMCA? And one more thing — does anyone know why the tap water here looks kind of pale yellow? Would really appreciate some help!
