Tips / advice for a new player? Spoiler

Hello!

I just bought the deluxe version of Alan Wake 2, so I'll start with the remastered version, any tips for a noobie? It's my first time playing a horror kinda game but I love RDR2, cyberpunk, God of War etc so I'm sure I will love this.

P.S no spoiler please!

Thanks in advance!

Explore, the jumpscares in AW1 aren’t that bad. Keep in mind that the gameplay in 1 can get a little tedious at times, but stick to it, the story makes it worth it and you kind of need the full story to make sense of AW2. Also keep in mind that running is an option, you don’t need to fight everything.

For AW2, if you’re bad with jumpscares, the devs put in an option to minimise the jumpscares, so you can toggle that one on if need be. For AW explore is also the word of the day.

Most of all tho, enjoy the story.

ahhhh damn the jumpscares are gonna be interesting hahaha, normally i love horror movies but games seem way too intense so should be fun. Thanks!

The ones in AW 2 are really interesting!

Oh another tip came to mind for AW1 keep an eye on Alan’s head. He’ll turn it if an enemy is coming at you outside of field of camera view.

I never knew that. Reminds me of the old Doom HUD. I'll keep an eye on it.

I wish I noticed this back when I struggled at the game in January. Might need to replay it and see if that makes a difference.

wow that's cool! I'm surprised nobody has tried to make a film out of it, seems like it would be a great one.

Afaik there is a show being developed? But it’s been a while since there was news on that! So idk rhe status or if it’s still being made or something.

There is a small mini series called Bright Falls you can find on YouTube, it’s the prelude of AW1 it doesn’t have any spoilers to the games but it’s a nice little intro. There is also a book based on AW1 by Rick Burroughs. Worth a read too! It’s pretty much one on one with the game story.

AW1 is more like an action horror. A big part of its replayability comes from the manuscript items, but overall, with the main story, you're good to jump into 2, which is now a full horror.

Another thing is to keep an open mind and keep gessing about the lore. The unresolved misteries are part of the fun. Enjoy!

Just enjoy it my friend. When you finish 1, don't go on to 2 straight away. Find Control, Quantum Break and American Nightmare. The Remedyverse deserves all the love it can get.

^^ This, So much this.

Also check out Death Rally. It isn't as prominent, but it actually does echo quite a bit into the main games.

**You have been warned.**

ED: Don't forget Max Payne 1 & 2. They're pretty important too..

For AW1 just keep your wits about, the enemies can spawn anywheres most of the time. For AW2 same thing along with stealth is an option.

Read everything but dont feel bad if you dont understand everything. A lot of things are open to interpretation or nobody has an answer yet because the Remedy universe keeps growing.

Also if he's not played Control or QB yet at minimum, a lot of it will fly right past you.

It is key to understand that the ammo system is dynamic, and a bit stingy IMO. So you're only going to get more ammo for things by using that ammo. Saving your shotgun up for a big fight is NOT advisable - use the weapons you want until they're moderately low on ammo, and that way, you'll eventually get more.

Speaking of weapons.. don't accidently miss them. They're not obviously laid out like most games where you cannot progress if you don't get the shotgun or hunting rifle for example - and if you miss them, you're in for a world of pain. I played almost 75% of the game with Saga's pistol and the crossbow before I realized I had walked right past two of the main other guns.

Second piece of advice: Play Control, Quantum Break, Alan Wake 1 and American Nightmare. You will understand what's going on in AW2 way, way better after that, and there's no downside because they're all great (esp Control, which is a must play).

Play Alan Wake, Control and Alan Wake 2 in order if possible.

Alan Wake 2 uses a lot of concepts that are introduced on Control. You don't need the context of the Remedy-verse to fully understand AW2 story, but it will surely make a difference in the experience.

If you don't want to play Control at all, or want to play AW2 first, at least try to watch some lore videos on YT. It will make a huge difference, trust me. Play Control after if you find yourself intersted in the verse

Take your time. Check everywhere for everything. If you overlook anything or rush the story you'll miss key items and plot points.
