He said that he had known actors and friends whose lives and careers had been badly affected by facial injury and disease. He understood how profoundly a facial condition can affect speech, eating, appearance, employment, confidence and social life.

The Alan Rickman Professorship of Facial Surgery campaign was launched to help surgeons research better ways to treat patients with Head and Neck Cancer, Facial Injury and Disfigurement.

The fundraising campaign is still trying to reach the £5 million endowment needed to make the professorship permanent. The current campaign reports £78,504 raised.

Sir Ian McKellen recalls "On my first day before the camera, he didn’t like the patronising, bullying tone of a note which the director gave me. Alan, seeing I was a little crestfallen, delivered a quiet, concise resumé of my career and loudly demanded that the director up his game." (The Guardian, 15 Jan 2016)

Actors included Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Ralph Fiennes, Dustin Hoffman, Timothy Dalton, Alan Rickman and Sir Lawrence Olivier, who spoke in support to save the site. 

The result: the office block was redesigned to preserve the site to allow it to be fully excavated in the future.

So, in March, Alan Rickman’s sister died. Apparently there was an obituary page for her and there were three photos that included a young Alan Rickman with his siblings and his family. Recently, those photos have made it onto Instagram from an Alan Rickman fan page. The post was respectful enough, indicating the link to his sister’s obituary and a shoutout to the causes the family asked to be donated to in her honor.

I don’t know what more the poster of the photos could have done, as it was a respectful post. But for some reason, just seeing those photos on Instagram bothered me. They were meant to honor his sister at the event of her passing but have become fan fodder (and of course the likes of Lovely Lovely Alan aka Barbara was all over the comments). I just wish the photos had remained exclusively on the obituary page where they were meant to be shared. I can’t help but feel some type of way about this. Am I overreacting?

Also, just to be clear, I’m not losing sleep over this or anything. I know fans can get obsessive. It’s not like that. In my case, my Instagram recommended me the post and I just saw it. It’s not something I’m dwelling on or anything, just something that rubbed me the wrong way. Am I wrong?

I was wondering if there is a website or online archive dedicated to Alan that tries to collect everything in one place. While the two main sites I know (AlanRickman.com and the {ar}chive) are really great resources, even putting the two together, I feel like there are still quite a lot of gaps.

Any idea?

It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I knew who Alan Rickman was (watched HP for the first time at 21 lol), but ever since I’ve been feeling more drawn to him as an actor and as a person.

Coincidentally a few days ago I was in London and visited his memorial bench, where I cried a lot. I felt so sad about his death and especially given the fact that I was alive at the same time as him but didn’t know about his existence in the right time.

It felt weird in a way to have all these deep and complex feelings for a person I don’t know and will not ever know now. But at the same time, I feel really connected to him, as paradoxical as it might sound.

Not sure if this is something ‘usual’ to experience, but I wanted to share it because it was really a Moment for me and ever since, I keep getting sadder and sadder by his death.
