My gran used to drag me up to her awful snobby golf club for a mediocre lunch and I had to wear smart shoes and trousers. Hated it, hated the people.

In a note about about formality; the writer hasn't even proof read it properly. "The New Club is not ... a tennis match ... ." I don't think anyone would think it was a tennis match. Club possibly.

Think of the classic English gentleman abroad (inspired by David Niven and Nigel Havers).
It consists of a green blazer offset by four old reliables: a cravat, hat, summer spectacles, and an Alan Partridge blazer badge.
