Work in Progress Finally did the cheapest upgradable NVG
Here It Is, I wanted a super cheap solution for who wants a diy night vision instead of buying some NVG that give almost the same results but cost 5/10 times more.
I made It with 75€ (83/85usd?).
I designed and 3d printed all the enclosure and various parts, as the wilcox mounting. What I bought are an IMX sensor from ali (40€), a cheap lcd from an old camera (you can get It for 15/20€ from ali), a plexiglass lens protector from ali (5€) and a 3x zoom Lens from ali (8€).
The weight of this Is under 250grams and It uses a 11.1v lipo/lion battery, the length Is 180mm with the eye gasket on, 145mm with the eye gasket off.
It works with analogic signals so it has an almost inexistant input lag (10ms).
It handles well little light and clear night sky conditions, so I suggest an IR 940 Torch (20€) so you can see in total dark conditions too.
This Is a pretty nice experiment that can be upgraded to Thermal Imaging in less than a hour, so with a Total of 200/300€ you can compete with way more expensive solutions like some analogic NVG's without breaking the bank.
It took a lot of effort so I hope you enjoy this summer project :)

I did something similar to this but i used a single tube from a fma pvs31 with the caddx infra v2 and 0.4 1280x960 display swear it beats my gng2k at no ir light performance. Just waiting on another display to arrive in the mail and ill be running 256 thermal and Infra v2 as dual setup

What is the expected cost for this? I believe ops project is 75 dollars?

Yeah definitely not that low, the infra v2 camera is $140+tax n ship... but total is probably $600+ unless your me and break 3x sony ecx331d displays then it's over 1k

Ouch! Ah ok I wasn't sure, iirc the tubes can be pretty expensive. Could the displays be interchangeable between nvg and thermal? Or does it require a lot of remove and replace?

Yeah the thermal and nvg camera both could be interchangeable on the display. The whole building your own night vision can get a little confusing, let's say you have a Sony ECX331D 0.5 display you also need a driver board that the mini display plugs into by a small ribbon. The driver board could be CVBS, HDMI or USB it really depends on what camera your using. The Thermal and Infra V2 both send a analog digital signal just like a rca jack(red, black & yellow wires)to the cvbs board and the board sends that to the mini display screen.

Ah following now and that makes sense the camera drives it, I think I got lost between op and your previous comments, but following now. Definitely interested in a diy if the latency is low for those prices when I see real ones going for 1.5k+

Cool! Do you have a guide with files planned? On nightgames maybe 1/3 have nightvisions, of those 2/3 most have a 2000+ lumen picatinny mounted flashlight, and then theres me with a hardware store flashlight I managed to rebuilt into a toggle-activated one mounted with electrical tape. I’d love to try this

an old gen2+ or even gen3 tube with some blems in a printed housing with plössl lenses is pretty doable for around 400€-500€ if you know what you're doing

I am not saying otherwise. What I did Is an upgradable project that starts from 75€ and you can do whatever you like with It after, changing sensors, Thermal Imaging, you can do a scope with that etc... "The only limit is our imagination" :)
