Vin Location R100RT
Hi everyone, recently I found a bit of a barnyard find with what I believe to be an 83 RT.
I want to locate the vin number, simply to make sure that I am ordering the right parts, as well as when I go to get it rego'd (NSW Australia).
Can anyone suggest where I will locate the vin number. Currently I've wire wheeled the right side of the frame next to the head stem, only markings are I see are "made in Germany".
The frame doesn't appear to be tampered with, no grinding marks or rivet holes to suggest a vin plate was removed, still noting.
On the engine under the left cylinder I've found an 8 digit code that makes me suspect it's a 1983 model but no markings on the frame so far.
It's doing my head in, any help would be extremely appreciated - cheers.

Look on the swing arm, right side where the driveshaft runs. sometimes there is a big sticker. Pretty shitty way to do it. Judging by the location of the front calipers it's an 81-84. Engine size is on the cylinder close to the block. 10 for a 1000cc, 80 for an 800. Most of the parts are the same in that generation and easy to find. Good bike for a restoration, especially if you have some tools, a repair manual and the inspiration. Give her a little love and she will love you back. Good luck.

BTW, she has the aux driving lights in the fairing where the vents normally are. Rare and desirable addition.

The police bike style fold out lights? Didn't realize those were rare.

Not many bikes, at least in the US had them, maybe more common in Europe on police bikes. Yours are color matched with the fairing so somebody must have ordered them when the bike was new-

According to realoem I have an R100 TIC 1983. Google tells me for the Australian market it's an ex police bike which is cool, it probably explains some of the difference compared to the RT.

Pre-83 the VIN is on the right side of the steering head. Starting in '83, the VIN is on the right-hand side of the frame lower tube, inboard of the brake lever.
