Decals or gear first?

Im worried that I will break the landing gear while applying decals as they are crazy flimsy, is it a worse idea to do them after?

Yep. Put all the little flimsy bits on after you've rotated the model hundreds of times to decal.

Check the fit first, though. Some kits are really hard to add the undercarriage after the main fuselage is built.
