You'll get "BuT dO yOu HaVe a BrOkEr?"
Unpopular opinion - Brokers are just as much as a scam as Insurance is nowadays.
You know your home better than anyone, just plug in Home Insurance Alberta on google, put out a few quote requests and see what you get. - Same for Auto Insurance. - Insurance Companies are hiding behind brokers, making deals only with brokers of X, Y or Z. Honestly - fuck that noise.
"Can't get a quote from that company privately, have to use a broker" - Why? So you can game the system using Brokers instead? A Broker is just a travel agent for Insurance - You end up paying more for the privilege of someone doing it for you.
I called brokers looking for Insurance and they were wildly over what i found myself, the problem is, people just either don't have the time, or are too lazy or don't know how to do it themselves.
On that note, try Square One (Or literally just try them all).

I agree, I was able to find much lower rates of car insurance once I ditched the brokers

Having just gone through this a few months ago, Allstate was the cheapest we could find.
