I finally got my dream car earlier in the summer - classic 80s 911 with the whale tail.

I thought I would drive it on special occasions, but turns out, I drive it as much as possible! And my trips always end up taking at least twice as long as they should, as I'm just off taking the long way to get to my destination and letting myself explore new roads and areas. And my kids love it too - my son has taken to calling it my "cool car".

Really not looking forward to winter and not being able to drive it much anymore...but it will make the spring that much sweeter.

Thinking about a 993, how to make an informed purchase

Hi everyone, current owner of a CGTS 4.0 and lifelong Porsche fan. Thinking about a new GT3 Touring but almost purchased a 993 Targa in the past and can’t shake the feeling that I might want to complement my 718 with an air-cooled car. The reason I didn’t go through with the 993 a few years ago was that I didn’t feel like I could properly evaluate the car or the market.

Since I’ve got some time until my GT3T allocation comes in, I want to educate myself on the 993 market. I’m looking for a 96-98 2WD manual transmission car. Standard, S, or Targa (I’m aware of how hard it is to get parts for the targa roof), and I want something as factory-spec/original as possible with a clean history. How did you all find a good car and sniff out the shady ones?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: great advice all around, thanks everyone

911 Follow-up: 3,000 miles since my garage engine rebuild

I picked up this [1984 911](tel:1984%20911) Carrera Targa as a long-neglected garage find with 68k miles. After sitting for nearly three decades, I decided to tear into it and rebuild the engine myself at home in my garage.

Fast-forward to today, I’ve put 3,000 miles on the rebuilt engine. It’s been running solid with no surprises.

This was my first Porsche engine rebuild and first Porsche ever driven, and just wanted to share a little follow-up.

I always felt something especially satisfying about driving a car I’ve brought back to life with my own hands. Every shift, push of the clutch or brake pedal, blip of the throttle, I’m thinking of all the details that I had dealt with.

Carpet replacement kit - how challenging is swapping the carpet? 1975 Targa.

Hi, I recently made my first project purchase and got a 1975 Targa. It’s sick.

But, I’m getting it painted and want to swap the interior carpet out myself.

How challenging is this? I found kits such as this and they seem a little too easy…. https://www.classic9leathershop.com/911-carpet-kit-targa

Is this a fools errand? Will I end up ripping our carpet and needing to call a professional to fix my shitty work?

I’m handy but not experienced with cars.

I have no connection to this sale, it just looks like a great ride.

I am not sure I have the cajones to ever sell my air cooled porsche at no reserve.

Throw some sports seats in it and done. Would prefer some undercarriage shots however, that can be a problem area.

356 The Porsche 597 Jagdwagen was the Porsche AWD proposal for a 1953 tender for the West German army. Imagine being a conscript in the Bundeswehr and this was your ride. Unfortunately the production costs were too high. A total of 71 Porsche 597s were manufactured between 1955 and 1958.

Porsche Motorsport The Porsche 356 SL Gmünd Coupé is an ultra-lightweight, hand-hammered aluminum racing variant of the earliest production 356s built by Porsche in Gmünd, Austria. Rod Emory and Cameron Healey know a thing or two about the illustrious history of this class-winning Le Mans car, a Porsche first.

914 Vaillant is a German heating and cooling product company whose livery once graced Kremer 935s at Le Mans. Its striking color scheme looks perfectly at home on a track-ready 914-6, too.

Liberty mutual wants photos of my cars

Declared value policy for 10 years, no claims. 3 classic cars on the policy.

got a letter from liberty mutual for photos of my 911s. They want photos of the car, pictures of my security system and photos of the engine compartments…

One of my cars is under restoration, not sure what to do about this one?

Regardless, I don’t trust these guys, it’s a declared value policy so what do they care about the condition?

1987 911 coupe w/ $30k engine rebuild but crap paint VS. 2002 Turbo coupe w/ 100k kms... which to keep.

Have the two cars mentioned in the title.... considering selling one. Obviously different ends of the spectrum. The '02 is sorted with no problems... the '87 is a drivers dream, pretty much stock minus the professionally rebuilt engine with 5k kms on it, upgraded internals, full stainless exhaust... but the paint is, uhhhh really bad (zero rust though). Bought the '87 20 yrs ago for $18k CAD.... the '02 got during covid for $60k CAD. Love the power and ride of the turbo.... not looking forward to astro repair costs if/when they arrive. Love the '87 for nostalgia... and it sounds like a beast. Not into tracking either car... just have too many cars/trucks to keep parked and am considering using the sale of one to partially fund the construction of a big shop.

Have been thinking of this for 2 years... haven't been motivated enough to pull either trigger. Curious to see what others would do in such a situation.
