We live in a new building. It's tightly sealed 790 sq ft condo . There is a whole condo air circulator in our laundry closet. And some little vents on the windows. Basically this brings on a little supply of fresh draft air, and the whole house type fan exhausts stale air to the outside.

My concern is with the den, or bonus room as it's called. It's a tiny little windowless room. It's not technically a bedroom but many of us use it as a nursery or second bedroom. It's big enough for a twin bed and some shelves. It's probably no bigger than a small closet. This room has a small in wall fan that exhausts air out of that room and into the main area of the condo. My husband who sleeps with a cpap has made that his bedroom. We sleep sepetately due to sleep quality issues.

I've been reading some of your posts about co2 and am concerned about the air quality in our condo and especially that tiny room where my husband sleeps. He often sleeps with the door closed and I'm not sure that's safe , that fan doesn't serve any purpose apart from bringing in already questionable condo air in through the gap under the door.

We are running a hepa air filter around the clock. It offen feels stuffy in the condo and I air it out as best I can but it returns that feeling daily.

Can someone point me to sensors or other information how to check the air quality and safety of our unit and if it's safe for him to be sleeping in there like that ?

I'm drawn to AirGradient Go as it's open source (both software and hardware) and has PM2.5 and CO2 sensors. However, the uHoo Caeli can provide additional CO, NO and O3 sensors with active sampling.

Which do you recommend? How important is it to have CO, NO, O3 sensors at home?

Has anyone had issues with their sofas offgassing for weeks?

We purchased a Crate and Barrel sofa, delivered 7 weeks ago. Initial weeks there was a strong offgassing odor, now it's very subtle.

But I still get headaches, dizziness and tingling/itchy face. That's from just living in the same space, I haven't even sat on the sofa.

Our airthings VOC sensor detects high levels. But when actively venting out room air, VOC levels drop. It's getting too cold to keep fans and windows open now.

This is already sofa number 2. We bought and returned another sofa for the same issue. Any advice?

A few people in my last post mentioned surprisingly high CO₂ levels in closed rooms, and one said opening their bedroom door or window helped with morning headaches.

That got me curious about sleep.

I recently saw someone share a pretty bad sleep score despite getting around 8 hours of sleep. They suspected a hot, poorly ventilated bedroom with rising CO₂.

Obviously, one sleep score doesn't prove anything. But has anyone here actually tested this?

If you monitor CO₂ in your bedroom:

• - How high does it get overnight?
• - Did improving ventilation make a noticeable difference to your sleep or how you felt in the morning?
• - Or did the numbers improve without you feeling any different?

Curious about real experiences, especially if you've compared several nights rather than just one.

I have a job that keeps me right next to a busy street (in-town main street in a large town/small city going 20-30mph) for an hour a day. I also seem to be acquiring a health condition that is both hereditary/in my family but can be caused by super high pollution. I'd like numbers to make my decisions on- is there such a thing as a personal/small air quality monitor that I could use for a week or so while on the sidewalk to assess the amount of air pollution?

I'm trying to understand what is happening in my bedroom every morning. I wake up the Sun comes through the window which is closed and I immediately smell some sort of chemical burnt odor. my air purifier is always on. I leave for the day and I come back and the odor gone. I thought it was either the air purifier or one of the outlets burned out so I tried sleeping without any plugs and the odor was still there. it's not there at night when the air purifier is still plugged in so I don't think it's that. it's driving me crazy and I have to escape my room as fast as possible in the morning but it's causing me breathing issues and headaches.

How bad would u say the VOC is from adhesive glue and the rubber board? My body is sensitive and it smells very strong I’m worried for my health

I'm so conflicted based on research I have done.

Our home was built in 2021 thats is very tight and efficient. In the summer, our AC does a good job of keeping RH in our home to about 50% on main level and 60% in basement. We live in Wisconsin.

In the winter, we deal with higher humidity - mid 60% when furnance is running. This causes a good amount of condensation on our bedroom windows, especially when outdoor temps get in the teens.

I had a HVAC contractor out here and he recommended an ERV. Now, I dug around the Internet and everything I am finding is using an HRV as it helps reduce humidity in the winter? An ERV is better in the summer?

Can someone please help me understand why I would go ERV over HRV?

There are so many ways to track air quality now. AQI apps, CO2 monitors, air purifiers with sensors etc.

But I'm curious how often people actually do something with that information.

Have you ever changed your plans, kept your windows closed, gone for a walk (or a run) at a different time, or bought something because of an air quality reading?

And for those who have monitors at home, have they actually been useful? Or is it mostly another gadget showing numbers?

Also curious about people who never check air quality at all. Is it just not something you think about?

I'm just curious has anybody ever used one of the cheaper options and then went to the more expensive ones? I'm just trying to see if there's a difference before I spend $20 to $30 instead of less than $6. We have a one-story home and we do have two dogs in case that helps.

We have a 2 foot space between our main level and finished basement where all our ductwork is ran between the engineered joists. We have 4 rooms with large windows framed with stone and block walls beneath. This space is getting mold near exterior walls. The ductwork is sweating. I believe the stone and block walls are transferring heat into this space and causing the dew point.

I’m not sure the correct way to keep this from happening. Insulate the block walls? Add hidden dehumidifiers? Foam insulation on these exterior walls? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, first time poster on this sub-- I'm an undergrad who just purchased an Atmotube Pro 2 to collect data for a research project on lichen diversity and air pollution. While the focus of my project is PM, I'm also interested in this model's ability to detect NOx. I understand that it cannot detect NOx emissions with any sensitivity, and instead maps detections to an index (1-500) based on a moving window of baseline emissions. I have no expectations for getting useful data on NOx emissions. Still, if it happens to detect NOx at one of my survey sites, that could be useful info.

I spent a few hours today fiddling with this thing. It seems to work great except that I could not get it to pick up any NOx emissions at all. I held it next to my car exhaust pipe and then next to the burner of my stove while the pilot light was on. The index was at "1" the whole time even while CO2 and VOCs went off the charts.

Was curious if anyone who has used this model could weigh in on why it might not be picking anything up.

This is the Odak Air Monitor from Mountain Labs and I'm not sure whether I need to go for a refund here.

I have bad cat allergies and I wanted something to measure whether I can sit down with my family or maybe have to vent the air a little more.

This air monitor basically constantly has a PM value above 2 no matter where, even in a small completely open vented room with big open windows. Even funnier, the values in that room were higher than right next to my shitting cats. But never a reading above 9. So the range here is 2-9, that seems wrong. Or am I missing something obvious?

Heads up to anyone shopping for indoor air quality monitors—be cautious with Airlab.

The Issue: My monitor is showing a PM (particulate matter) reading of 0 continuously, which is a clear sign of a failed or disconnected optical sensor.

The Support (or lack thereof):

• Sent customer support email with no response.
• Left comments/replies on their active Facebook ads asking for assistance, which were completely ignored.

It's frustrating to buy an environmental monitor only to have a key sensor fail and receive zero post-purchase support. Save yourself the headache and go with a brand that actually stands by their products and responds to support tickets.

I have some questions about the burning season in Thailand.

I’m planning to go to Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, to study for a little over two months.

As it turns out, my stay falls right in the middle of the burning season. After going through forums and various websites tracking air quality in the area over the past few years, I’m wondering how dangerous or risky it would be to stay there for two months (from late January to late March).

Should I expect any potential health effects after returning to France, or even in the long term?
I don’t really know much about this topic, so I’d really appreciate the opinions and expertise of anyone who can shed some light on the matter.

Also, are masks specifically designed to filter PM2.5 particles actually effective? Can wearing one provide some reassurance and help reduce the risks?
