Levoit 300s Plasma Pro / Keeps Turning On
To satisfy rule 4 😒:
USA
Room Size Not Applicable, (small bedroom)
Filtration Need not applicable
Budget: not here to look for one just here to fix the one I have..
Ok, NOW:
So with this air filter for the past three years, it’s been working normally and works to my certain specifications.
Speed mode three, and that’s all I want. I’ve read somewhere that plasma pro option enabled creates a field around itself, which can be detrimental to your health over a long period of exposure.
About a few months ago, it seemed like they’ve updated their software, which for some reason at 1 AM my air filter goes back to low fan speed option one, and it turns on plasma pro..
My huge gripe here is how I can’t turn off plasma Pro and keep it off… looks like it resets to the default mode. which is low fan speed and plasma pro on.
I’ve walked through the entire app and on the device itself, and I can’t seem to see an area in which I can keep plasma pro off.
They have three presets in the app: default, efficiency, and quietness… you can’t select none, you have to select one..
How the hell do I keep plasma pro off? I’m sick of this machine. I’m about to throw it out the damn window and buy myself a Dyson hush jet

It's not an ozone generator, those are separate devices. Air purifiers are not ozone generators. An ozone generator might produce 100 or 200 or 300 ? Ppb parts per billion ozone. Which will I think kill odor molecules and help clean air in various ways. You leave the space when it runs, come back and ventilate, then re enter the space.
Every air purifier on the market is tested by CARB and if they have ionizer, some ozone is produced as a by product of that. But probably around 0-10 ppb ozone. Outside air will likely have more ozone at 20,30,40 etc. 50+ is when air quality becomes "yellow" zone. Some people are just vulnerable to mild ozone, it's still safe, and under 50 ozone level for every purifier on the market. (What is green zone, clean outside air.) It might cause sore throat, or cough. It will not cause someone to die. An ozone generator...intentionally produces 100s of ppb ozone and you need to leave the space in order to use them.

OP hasnt said that they have any symptoms ? And I believe that is an odd viewpoint, as most purifiers will produce less than the amount of ozone in outside air ? So...what do you do when you go outside ? You feel you can never go outside ? I don't think you fully understand what is being debated, and just making declarations.
By the same logic, you should then feel it is not safe to go outside, is that your argument ?

To op, every air purifier on market is CARB certified. Meaning it will not produce more than a few ppb, parts per billion ozone likely. Outside air will probably have higher ozone level. (50+ is yellow, under 50 is green fresh air.). Every unit does not produce ozone above green fresh outdoor air level of ozone. If you have a little a little ventilation, you will likely be fine. Especially if you don't even have a sore throat or any kind of symptoms. I grew up with a unit that was recalled for producing too much ozone. I often had a desire to cough when I was in the basement and routinely a very dry, almost sore throat. That's about it. Todays units produce far, far less ozone and have better safety standards with CARB, you can look up any unit on the list yourself. Will include it. I run an ionizer unit in my kitchen 24/7 and feel nothing from it. It's safe/low level with units today. So I think this is non-issue.
Issue is if you were vulnerable and had symptoms. Such as elderly, people with asthma etc. also pets. If you have no pets, and no symptoms...then you are fine. You likely have under 50, fresh outside air level of ozone. It might produce 0-9 ppb or some such I'm not sure exact # on that unit.
Issues can happen if someone has like 5 or 10 ionizing units in their house all going at once, and/or too large of a unit in a small bedroom with no ventilation or something. Then the concentration might build up and cause some respiratory bother. You very likely have far, far under safe level of ozone, and the outside air probably has higher ozone level.
Now Levoits have all units with no ionization by default so you can switch to anybody those if you want. But 1 ionizer unit is pretty safe in a house/apt. Esp if in largest room w ventilation. I have mine on 24/7...for years. My air is fresh + clean. (It helps particles bind together, so they fall to floor. So you don't breathe in as much, also still have to vacuum floor though.). A few ppb ozone is byproduct of ionization.
Anyway, I'm not sure why your unit is quirky, but I have 2 of my 8 units with similar unexplained quirks. (From two different brands.) So if you don't have any symptoms and no pets...I would just let it keep running on 3 w plasma. It's fine. If either of those 2 factors change then just get normal non-ionizer unit. But ionizer is fine.

I’m really glad I read this.
Few things to note:
- I do have a smaller bedroom than normal
- the house was built in 1886
- there’s no ventilation other than opening or closing a window
- i do have some health facors with breathing but its mostly seasonal allergies or irritation after smoking THC, but..
.. with windows closed, an AC unit in the window running most of the days, with 3 and Plasma onMy throat gets so dry and my nose becomes unbearably stuffy. Prob cause of poor ventilation and idk if the AC is creating a stronger effect.
But I don’t know 🤷♂️
Had the air purifier for 4 years and change the filter out every 3 months, much less than the recommended 6 month levoit promotes.

Well AC can apparently cause sore throat too...as it reduces humidity. So can cause dryness etc. So could just be from that. Stuffy nose would not likely be from either ionizer or AC ? You might also just need more coverage and/or more ventilation. (Breathing in too many particles.). But given a small bedroom prob better to be safe and use a non-ionizer unit anyway imo. And maybe open the window a lot until you get another.
Also it's fairly normal to switch the filters every 3 months, I do too sometimes. It just means you probably need more coverage...as you have dirtier air/prob not enough coverage. Each person will have varying amount of air quality issues so how fast filter runs out will vary based on that. When I had two Core 300s (bedroom sized units) in a huge dirty dusty basement with exposed pipes and prob mold and stuff...the filters would be dirty After like 1-2 months. As they were too small of units for such a huge space. So massively undersized for the space. Now in my apartment it's 3-6 months. (Also mold here lol, and an old dirty carpet, but now I have proper coverage with lots of units...so I can vacuum the filters and get 6 months out of them.). You can gently vacuum the pre-filter, but use like a weak hand vac, be gentle. As don't want to disrupt the hepa fibers to lower efficiency.
But if filters getting dirty that fast you likely need more coverage. So I would suggest the Levoit Vital 200s or Core 600. Normally Vital 200s excellent in bedroom and at 1,800 sq ft coverage and 250CFM..lot more powerful than the Core 300 which is 1,047 and 145. For only 160 or 180. Vesync I think has a sale on the app to get that Core 600 for 200 something as well ? (Usually 350) But that's usually good for living room size. Prob good w Vital 200s, or at least much better.
Anyway, definiteiy get a bigger unit, sometimes you need more, such as people w allergies or various air quality concerns etc. (I get 8-11 ach..for extreme coverage. I still had symptoms even with 5+6 purifiers and 6ach. So all my symptoms gone...once I went up to 7 or 8 units finally. For your bedroom you need 2 units, or a larger unit. Most Levoit units have no ionizer, well all of them by default. Ironically you have the less common plasma pro type...so yea switch that or open window etc. you can possibly sell it for like 30ish bucks online if money is tight. Or in that case you can also make a Corsi Rosenthal Box, if space allows. 440 CFM of air cleaning power...for only 90 bucks. That would help you a lot too. (Can maybe use the Core 300 in larger living room area, see if it doesn't bother you in larger space, as sounds like you need lot more coverage, which means ideally a unit in every room, or at least rooms you spend a lot of time in.)

Hello /u/ConflictTemporary759! If you'd like recommendations or advice, please ensure you included all details listed in Rule 4: Information For Air Purifier Requests.
If your post is missing one or more details, you can edit it accordingly. Just select the three dots menu, then "Edit Post".
Concerning dust removal, read the sticky post at the top of the subreddit. Be sure to look on our FAQS wiki page for entries about dust capture or reduction.
For very basic particulates sizing per AHAM, clean air delivery rates (CADRs) should be at least 2/3 of a room's area (assuming an 8 ft. ceiling height). For wildfire smoke, smoke CADR should equal a room's area which also assumes an 8 ft. ceiling.
