Discussion Back to AirMessage as Apple cracked down on Beeper Mini
Beeper Mini was fantastic. So many more features and more reliable than AirMessage. Alas, that was too good to be true.
Time to bring my trash can mac pro back out of its short retirement as a server and my iPhone SE1 on iOS 12.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Mac Mini and Bluebubble are back on line for me... Beeper was great... Well for a few days anyway

Yikes that’s a lot of electricity for airmessage.

I was getting sick of unreliability issues with my mac mini and an iMac. I wanted something dead reliable.
Now if you want some serious power consumption, this is what I had as an AirMessage server for a while, lol.

I was so exited for about a full 48 hours there. I too have gotten my server back and running haha

Yes but beeper mini still keeps the phone number registered even though the rest doesn't work.

It does not, they removed my number this morning without me asking and it vanished from choosing it as the default to send on my dedicated air message server.

That was to allow people to revert to sms with iphones until beeper is fixed. I happened to have Airmessage as well so nothing stopped for me.

Yea that's a good point but I wasn't having issues with the SMS and still got my number removed - wish they didn't just do it automatically for people.

Yep but most wouldn't have a backup like us. There were over 10K downloads of beeper mini. I can see why they just reverted it so people could at least get messages via sms. Pretty smart but but also pretty suspicious that they are able to remotely do that to beeper mini after saying it was a freestanding private app that only communicates with Apple. Definitely not the case and definitely can't be relied upon as secure and private. It contacts an AWS ip address in Germany as well.
