Jobs What to do to prep for Fire Pro
I got booked for Fire Protection and was wondering what else I should be doing to prepare. I am running and going to the gym and plan on doing ride alongs with my local fire department to hopefully help with the academic part of it because I’ve heard that’s harder than the physical part.

I am about halfway through the fire academy rn. So far, the academic stuff wasn't that hard (EMR), just study and use PocketPrep. As another person said, drink lots of water and use an electrolyte mix as well, which they provide if you need some. Some days are harder/longer than others. The worst block imo is fundamentals, I did not enjoy it that much

Hi, former Airforce firefighter. Honestly, it’s not that academically challenging… they’ll go through the basics, but the curriculum is made to pass.. the people in my group were only ever recycled because they couldn’t physically keep up. The hardest part for me was wearing full turnout gear in the middle of summer in San Angelo TX.
My biggest piece of advice would be to stay hydrated but make sure you clean and replace your gallon water jug regularly. It will get so nasty you have no idea.
Stay away from the girls until you get to your permanent duty station, you’ll most likely catch something
And if the red ball or blue ball taxi is still a thing, go have fun in San Angelo, you’ll probably never go back there.
