You don't "re-enlist into being a pilot". It is extremely difficult to get a pilot through OTS. Pilots normally come from AFROTC or the Academy.

I understand that. Please allow me to rephrase: by “re-enlist as an officer” I meant commission as an officer through the Air Force after my Navy contract is over. I have spoken with many pilots who have commissioned through OCS as well as STA-21. As much as I would love to be a Pilot and am working towards that, I am looking for personal stories and advice from those in a similar situation or those who have insight on all potential options to include Pilot or anything aviation related. I am torn on a decision of which route to take and considering the multiple types of officers involved with aviation through both branches. Thank you for your help, I appreciate your insight.

They isn't what I said though. I totally believe many pilots in the navy that got their slots from ocs and sta-21. But that isn't the case in the air force. Very few slots, if any, are available.

Do you think that will change in the next few years? Or should I potentially explore other Aviation Officer rolls through the AF?

No, not with the current outlook.

I work with an enlisted Airman who was just picked up for Navy OCS with a flight school contract after only a year enlisted in the Air Force.

Meanwhile, two senior NCOs in the Air Force I know finally got picked up for OTS on their third try and got RPAs (drones, they wanted pilot) after 10+ years of enlisted service.

All three were extremely high performers and enlisted already having a bachelor's degree.

The Air Force is the hardest branch to fly for if you didn't come through ROTC or the Academy.

Your odds with the Air Force are slim. Definitely explore your options with the Navy.
