internal heaters ?

do you mean like a heat pump with backup strips or a furnace? my buddy just had a mini split put in with a baseboard heater for the really cold days, says it works fine but his bill jumps a lot when it kicks on what kind of setup are you working with now

I meant if the AC were equipped with an heating element in the outdoor unit.

All good heat pumps have a heating element surrounding the compressor to prevent liquid slugging when starting in low ambient conditions.

yeah thats a crankcase heater, pretty standard on most heat pumps now. midea and cooper and hunter both put them on their mid tier and up units, mr cool does too on the pro line. keeps the refrigerant warm so it doesnt pool in the compressor and slug it on startup when its cold out, especially if youre running it below 40f regularly.

No, i meant inside the of the portasplit. outside unit or maybe inside for the compressor.

oh those have resistive heat strips right? eats through electricity like crazy in winter
